ServiceNow Rides the Agentic Shift as Cantor Lifts Its Target to $174

The stock market's AI obsession is migrating. For months, the surest way to profit from artificial intelligence was to buy the picks and shovels — semiconductors, data centers, colossal energy budgets. Application software, by contrast, languished in the shadows. That trade is now being rethought, and ServiceNow sits squarely at the center of the reappraisal.
Shares of the software group changed hands at EUR 122.60 in European trading on Tuesday, up 2.2 percent, following a 1.9 percent advance on Monday that left the stock at a closing price of EUR 120.00. Behind the move: a broad market tailwind, fresh optimism on Wall Street, and the company's steady push to position its platform as the orchestration layer for autonomous software agents.
From Experiments to Production
Corporate buyers of AI have entered a new phase. Measurable efficiency gains are now the price of admission for further software spending. Open-ended pilots are giving way to structured rollouts in which digital agents don't merely assist human workflows but take over entire process chains on their own. For software vendors, how well they capture that transition will determine their growth trajectory for years.
Jacqui Canney, ServiceNow's Chief People & AI Enablement Officer, flagged the organizational fallout on Tuesday. Blending human staff with autonomous systems demands entirely new governance and control structures, she said. By the company's own estimate, agentic AI will fundamentally reshape more than ten million jobs worldwide by 2030.
That puts executives in the position of coordinating people and software agents side by side. ServiceNow's pitch is a control plane that delivers transparency and prevents loss of oversight — not just linking applications, but authorizing and supervising digital identities.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ServiceNow?
The competition is formidable. Microsoft and Salesforce are spending heavily on comparable platforms for automated workflows. Whoever establishes itself as the leading orchestration layer stands to lock in a privileged position in the budgets of large multinational customers.
Cantor Fitzgerald Raises Its Sights
Much of the analyst community believes ServiceNow can claim that role. Cantor Fitzgerald's Thomas Blakey lifted his price target on the stock to $174 from $141 while reiterating an Overweight rating. BTIG Research also reaffirmed its buy recommendation.
Blakey's reasoning goes to the heart of the shift: enterprise customers are no longer satisfied with simple chat assistants and are deliberately upgrading to higher, more margin-rich software tiers. At the center of that movement are agentic systems — software agents that independently execute complex tasks across departmental boundaries. Management's stated goal of generating roughly 30 percent of total annual contract value from AI solutions by 2030 is coming into sharper focus against that backdrop.
Not everyone is cheering. More cautious voices point to the stock's demanding valuation multiple, which requires consistently high growth rates to justify.
The Fundamentals Behind the Multiple
The second-quarter numbers provide the supporting evidence. Revenue climbed 24 percent year over year to $3.99 billion, and adjusted earnings of $0.90 per share beat the consensus estimate. A double-digit net margin and solid return on equity underscore the company's earning power this fiscal year.
Customer retention is the quieter story. Renewal rates came in at roughly 98 percent — once a client has embedded the platform in IT and service management, switching providers is not a step taken lightly.
CEO Bill McDermott is simultaneously broadening the foundation. The acquisition of specialist Armis brought in key technology for monitoring connected devices, addressing the most pressing problem of autonomous software: security.
For investors, the picture is coming into focus. Valuation across the software sector remains historically rich, but integration capability is separating winners from also-rans. Tools that merely generate text snippets are sliding under margin pressure. Whoever controls the data flows and operational workflows of global corporations, by contrast, holds the stronger hand in this technological transition. The open question is how quickly enterprise customers move the new agentic solutions into everyday production — and whether the platform can cement its role as the central nervous system of corporate operations.
