SAP's Fioneer unit won a Deutsche Bundesbank core banking contract as the group heads into its quiet period before Q3 2026 results on October 21.

SAP is keeping its operational engine running even as the Walldorf software group enters its regular quiet period ahead of third-quarter 2026 results. With the earnings release set for October 21, management has been steering attention toward practical deployments of new technology and core customer projects rather than forward-looking financial guidance.

Fioneer Lands Central Bank Contract

One of the more notable wins came from SAP's carve-out Fioneer, which according to tender documents secured a contract from Deutsche Bundesbank, as reported by Handelsblatt. The agreement covers the delivery of a core banking application along with ongoing maintenance and further development. The deal marks a foothold for the spin-off in the German financial sector, a segment where SAP has long sought to deepen its presence.

On the enterprise customer front, SAP kicked off October by highlighting tools that let companies track and control spending on so-called AI tokens consumed by generative language models. The group also disclosed a collaboration with public transport operator BERNMOBIL aimed at overhauling its business processes. Separately, market research firm IDC placed the software maker in its top "Leader" category in the IDC MarketScape 2026 for AI-powered direct procurement.

Klein Pitches AI as a Generational Opening

Chief executive Christian Klein, speaking to the dpa news agency, framed AI products as a historic growth opportunity for the company. He pointed to SAP's combination of established enterprise software, deep industry knowledge and proprietary corporate data as the key differentiator. The company is also broadening its alliance with NVIDIA to build verifiable AI agents, integrating NVIDIA OpenShell into its own AI platform.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SAP?

Those content initiatives will get a public airing shortly. SAP Connect runs in Las Vegas from October 5 to 7, with a virtual companion program scheduled for October 6 and 7.

Labor Deal Draws Union Pushback

Behind the scenes, SAP reached an agreement with the works council of its parent company on Thursday to secure employment through the end of 2028. The arrangement, first reported by Handelsblatt, applies initially to the group's holding entity, while a comparable deal for staff at the German sales unit is still being drafted.

IG Metall voiced sharp criticism of the outcome, faulting the company for not extending the previous arrangement. The union noted that the new framework agreement no longer contains an explicit exclusion of redundancies for operational reasons.

Buyback Provides a Floor

Supporting the stock has been SAP's ongoing repurchase program. Roughly a week ago the group bought back 590,000 of its own shares on Xetra for a total transaction volume of EUR 108,368,601.00. Analyst sentiment has been mixed: Jefferies raised its price target to EUR 220 and reiterated its buy rating about two weeks ago, while JPMorgan stayed neutral with a EUR 175 target.

Shares closed Friday at EUR 184.70, a daily decline of 1.4 percent, leaving the stock down 12 percent since the start of the year. The price sits 2.6 percent above its 50-day moving average.

October 21 in Focus

Investors will get their clearest read on recent months when SAP publishes its third-quarter 2026 figures on October 21 at 22:05 CEST, followed by an investor conference at 23:00 CEST. Until then, the Las Vegas presentations and the steady drumbeat of customer wins will carry the narrative.
