SAP Balances AI Ambitions and Labor Deal as Q3 Report Looms

SAP has rolled out a revamped customer feedback platform, part of a broader push to tighten its relationship with the enterprises that use its software. The Walldorf-based company said Tuesday that the new Customer Influence tool lets corporate clients submit suggestions in a more structured way and track how their proposals move through the pipeline step by step.
The launch comes alongside a batch of functional upgrades spanning SAP Signavio, SAP LeanIX, WalkMe and SAP Cloud ALM. Those updates center on automated process analysis and on giving companies firmer governance over how AI agents are deployed across complex IT environments.
Klein Pitches AI as a Once-in-a-Generation Opening
CEO Christian Klein framed the direction in comments to dpa, describing new AI offerings as a historic growth opportunity. The goal, he said, is to embed intelligent agents directly into customers' core processes so they can deliver measurable productivity gains.
That message will get a public airing in the coming days. SAP Connect runs in Las Vegas from October 5 to 7, with a virtual companion program scheduled for October 6 and 7.
Labor Agreement Draws Union Pushback
Behind the product news, SAP has been settling its internal affairs. On Thursday the company reached an agreement with the works council of its parent entity to secure employment through the end of 2028 — a deal that has drawn sharp criticism from worker representatives.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SAP?
As Handelsblatt reported, the arrangement initially covers only the group's parent company. A comparable agreement for staff in the German sales unit is still being drafted.
IG Metall voiced clear objections to the outcome. The union complained that the previous arrangement was not extended, and that the new framework no longer contains an explicit exclusion of redundancies for operational reasons.
Buyback Continues Ahead of Quarterly Print
The company has also kept up its share repurchase program, buying back stock worth roughly EUR 108 million a little over a week ago.
Investors will get a fuller picture of operations on October 21, when SAP publishes detailed third-quarter 2026 figures at 22:05 CET, followed by an analyst and investor call at 23:00 CET. Management is currently in its official quiet period ahead of that release.
Analysts Split, Shares Hold Long-Term Cushion
Market reaction to the technology overhaul has been mixed. JPMorgan assigned a "Neutral" rating on September 22 with a price target of EUR 175, with media reports citing the U.S. bank's caution over elevated market expectations heading into the earnings report.
The DAX-listed stock finished Friday at EUR 184.70, a daily loss of 1.4%. Even so, the shares retain a buffer against their long-term trend line, sitting 11% above the 200-day moving average. They also trade 2.6% above the 50-day average.
Attention now turns to the Las Vegas presentations and the upcoming quarterly numbers, which should shed light on the software group's operating trajectory.
