Santhera's H1 2026 revenue doubled to CHF 48.3M and it pledged no new financing, but a 2027 liquidity dip and German price cut weigh on the stock.

For European biotech companies, the leap from development-stage outfit to profitable commercial player has always been the trickiest stretch of the journey. Hefty outlays for approvals and market launches collide with revenue that only builds gradually — and more often than not, that gap gets bridged with fresh capital that dilutes existing shareholders. Santhera Pharmaceuticals is currently trying to pull off that balancing act on its own.

A half-year scorecard that cuts both ways

The Swiss group's first-half 2026 figures, presented a little over a week ago, show genuine operating momentum. Revenue from customer contracts doubled to CHF 48.3 million, up from CHF 24.0 million a year earlier, with product sales contributing CHF 17.2 million of that total. Just as striking, operating expenses were trimmed to CHF 25.0 million, pulling the operating loss down to CHF 6.6 million from CHF 35.4 million in the first six months of 2025.

Management also reaffirmed its full-year 2026 guidance, targeting revenue of CHF 80 million to CHF 90 million. On paper, the operating path for the current financial year looks solidly underpinned.

Investors in this kind of transition phase, however, rarely fixate on the top line alone. The question that matters is how long the existing cushion lasts before sustainable cash generation kicks in.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Santhera Pharmaceuticals?

The no-capital-increase pledge

As of June 30, 2026, Santhera reported cash and cash equivalents of CHF 41.8 million. Management was unambiguous that no additional financing will be needed, even though it expects a temporary dip in liquidity during the first half of 2027. That pledge is the central bet the market is being asked to take. Drivers of the anticipated squeeze include deferred inventory purchases and a price reduction in Germany set to take effect in the first quarter of 2027.

Such announcements tend to trigger immediate caution on the trading floor. When margin pressure and a shrinking cash buffer loom, investors typically price in safety discounts well ahead of time. Yet the skepticism misses a key point: because Santhera has ruled out fresh funding for this stretch, the threat of a dilutive capital measure does not hang over shareholders for now.

What the tape is saying

The stock's mixed signals are visible in its recent trading. The shares closed yesterday at EUR 15.32, down 2.9%, and sit at EUR 15.40 in current quoting. Since the start of the year the stock is still up roughly 12% to 13%, but it remains about 24% below its 52-week high — and the momentum has visibly faded.

That hesitancy reflects fears of future drag more than any deterioration in the underlying business, which the market has so far been slow to credit. A study analysis on Agamree in DMD had already shaped the debate about a month ago, and the German price cut has weighed on expectations for the road ahead.

More than just hitting the targets

For Santhera, the coming quarters are about more than simply reaching its revenue goals. The company has to prove that its existing resources genuinely suffice to carry it through the lean stretch until cash inflows become self-sustaining. Pulling off that transition without outside capital would count as a rare feat in European biotech. Should receipts fall short of the targets instead, the debate over the company's cash position is likely to sharpen again in a hurry.

For those already invested, patience will be required through the anticipated soft patch at the start of next year. The confirmation of the 2026 targets shows the operating foundation is holding. If Santhera manages the temporary liquidity dip under its own steam as outlined, the recent share-price setbacks may look in hindsight like an overdone market reaction.
