SanDisk's Product Rollout Fails to Move the Needle as Memory Sector Sentiment Takes Over

Sometimes a headline is all it takes to bury solid operational news. SanDisk used last Friday to unveil three new portable SSD models, yet the launch barely registered with traders. The SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD and the SANDISK Extreme PRO Portable SSD hit shelves on October 9, with the standard SANDISK Portable SSD slated to follow on October 23. It is a familiar play in the company's core consumer mobile-storage business — and the market shrugged.
A Sector-Wide Selloff That Skips the Fine Print
The pressure on memory names traces back to ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT). The Chinese manufacturer reported progress on a new 4F² DRAM architecture and intends to roll out server-grade DDR5 RDIMM products before year-end. That disclosure triggered a broad retreat across storage equities, dragging SanDisk down with it. Reuters cited SanDisk by name among the memory makers that absorbed losses as anxiety over artificial-intelligence spending compounded the unease.
The detail that got lost: CXMT's announcement concerns DRAM. SanDisk's business is built on NAND flash. Rather than parse the distinction between the two memory architectures, market participants punished the sector as a bloc, and established US manufacturers slid into the red alongside their peers.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SANDISK?
Where the Stock Stands Now
SanDisk shares fell 3.7% on the day to EUR 1,290.00, following a prior close of EUR 1,340.00. The move pushed the stock beneath its 50-day moving average of EUR 1,397.20. Zoom out, and the picture is starker still: the shares have lost 12% over seven days and sit 35% below their 52-week high of EUR 2,060.00.
Wall Street is not speaking with one voice on the name. Evercore ISI trimmed its price target to $2,800 from $3,100, while Mizuho went the other way — lifting its target to $2,050 from $1,875 and keeping a Buy rating.
October 29 Becomes the Real Test
Hard numbers, not sector chatter, should settle the debate. SanDisk has scheduled its fiscal 2027 first-quarter results for October 29, 2026, with a conference call to follow. The company has already filed its annual documentation with the US securities regulator for the fiscal year ended July 3, 2026.
Until that report lands, the stock remains caught between broad semiconductor sentiment and the actual fundamentals of the flash market. Investors will be watching closely to see how NAND demand is truly developing — and whether the alarm over a competing technology was ever justified.
