SanDisk shares slipped 3.3% on Tuesday to EUR 1,190.00, a retreat that says less about the flash-memory maker itself than about the hair-trigger nerves still governing the memory-chip aisle. No fresh company-specific disclosure accompanied the move. The prior session had gone the other way entirely, with the stock climbing 6.0% to EUR 1,230.00 in European trading as part of a broader rebound that also lifted Micron Technology and SK hynix following the previous week's rout.

That whipsaw is the tell. Roughly a week ago, memory names came under heavy selling pressure after reports surfaced that Chinese rival CXMT was making technological strides in DRAM. Market watchers pinned the losses on general weakness across the memory complex — even though SanDisk's focus is NAND flash, not DRAM. The distinction got lost in the stampede.

A Valuation That Assumes the Worst

At EUR 1,190.00, the stock sits 40% below its 52-week high of EUR 2,060.00. That gap captures a persistent skepticism: many investors still treat NAND as a commodity destined to repeat the industry's brutal boom-and-bust history of price collapses and unpredictable oversupply. Jitters in the credit markets have reinforced the mood, with doubts mounting over the long-term viability of some debt-financed data centers. When yields on riskier tech debt climb, sentiment swings abruptly from growth euphoria to caution.

The old reflexes die hard. No sooner did CXMT unveil ambitious plans for denser memory chips and rising output than traders reached for the sell button, fearing a flood of cheap components and eroding margins.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SANDISK?

The Numbers Tell a Different Story

Yet the most recent quarterly results point to a business that looks nothing like a textbook cyclical. SanDisk posted revenue of USD 8.97 billion in its just-completed fourth fiscal quarter, up 51% from the prior quarter. Roughly two-thirds of that increase came not from shipping more bits but from higher prices. Gross margin reached 84.6%, and data-center revenue more than doubled to just under USD 3 billion.

The structural piece matters most. Long-term supply agreements already lock in about half of expected bit production for fiscal 2027 and roughly two-thirds for 2028 — planning certainty in an industry once torn apart by quarterly price wars. Can a company whose capacity is booked out years in advance really be valued like a classic cyclical?

Six Times Earnings Versus Twenty-One

That is precisely where the market splits. SanDisk trades at an estimated price-to-earnings ratio of about 6 for fiscal 2027, against a median of 21 for the broader semiconductor sector. Dell chief executive Michael Dell recently warned that the global memory shortage could persist until 2030, underscoring how tight supply may stay.

On the operational front, the company rolled out the SANDISK Guardian Series on October 13, adding high-endurance storage media built for continuous recording in dashcams and home security cameras. Earlier, on October 7, SanDisk published a blog post addressing NAND flash demand and industry growth — context-setting rather than new financial data or product news.

October 29 Looms Large

Hard numbers arrive next week. SanDisk has scheduled its fiscal 2027 first-quarter earnings call for October 29, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. Pacific time. Management is guiding for revenue of USD 10.3 billion to USD 10.8 billion and a gross margin of 83% to 85%. Should the results land inside that range, the market may find it increasingly difficult to keep applying its old commodity playbook to a company that has quietly rewritten the terms of engagement.
