Rock Tech Lithium has put a price tag on its proposed Red Rock Converter in Ontario — but not much else. Preliminary output from the definitive feasibility study pegs total capital costs at C$596 million, a figure that lands well below earlier internal expectations and leaves the market with more questions than answers about how the project will actually be financed and whether it can turn a profit once built.

The headline number breaks down into C$546 million of direct project costs, with owner's costs making up the remainder. The company is designing the facility to churn out roughly 30,000 tonnes of lithium salts annually, a scale that would anchor its long-term strategy but also demands reliable feedstock, locked-in offtake and a smooth path through permitting and technical execution.

A Budget That Shrank by More Than Half — Without a Full Explanation

Perhaps the most striking detail is how far the new estimate sits from what Rock Tech was telling investors just months ago. According to a report from The Northern Miner, the C$596 million figure comes in roughly 54 percent below the C$1.3 billion the company had flagged in an August investor presentation. Rock Tech has not accounted for the bulk of that reduction.

The disclosure also carries a tolerance band of plus/minus 20 percent, a reminder that the numbers could still shift meaningfully before the study is finalized. And two critical operational metrics remain conspicuously absent: future operating costs and expected project returns. Without those, the economics of the converter stay largely a black box.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rock Tech Lithium?

The financing structure for the industrial-scale build is likewise unresolved, leaving a wide gap between the triple-digit-million capital requirement and the company's current market valuation.

Siemens Canada Steps In to De-Risk the Process

To chip away at the technical uncertainty, Rock Tech secured support from Siemens Canada roughly two weeks ago. Under the arrangement, the technology group will help build a digital process twin for the converter and will provide specialist input during the feasibility study on process control, instrumentation and automation architecture. The partnership is aimed squarely at reducing metallurgical and procedural risk before construction gets the green light.

December 2026 Is the Date That Matters

Binding clarity on both economic viability and capital raising will have to wait for the final feasibility study results, which Rock Tech has slated for December 2026. Subject to those results and all necessary approvals, construction is penciled in for the second half of 2027.

Until then, investors are left to weigh a project of considerable ambition against a balance sheet that has yet to show how the pieces fit together.

Market Verdict: Cautious, and Getting Cautiouser

The stock's recent trading reflects that hesitancy. Rock Tech shares changed hands at EUR 0.3790 in one recent session, giving the company a market capitalization of EUR 48.45 million. A separate reading put the shares at EUR 0.3670, with the stock down 22 percent since the start of the year. Either way, the distance between a capital need measured in hundreds of millions and a sub-EUR 50 million valuation tells its own story about how much execution risk the market is pricing in.

For now, the December 2026 feasibility study stands as the single most important milestone on the horizon — the point at which the open variables on operating profitability and viable funding are supposed to snap into focus.
