Rock Tech Lithium's shares drew fresh attention this week after Bloomberg reported that German defence and technology group Rheinmetall had taken a strategic stake in the Canadian-German lithium developer, a move that shifts the spotlight back onto the company's financing plans on both sides of the Atlantic.

The stock rose 3.7% on Tuesday to EUR 0.3970. MT Newswires also reported the acquisition of a minority holding on Tuesday morning. Rheinmetall is said to have subscribed for CAD 3.25 million in a capital increase completed on 9 October, part of a private placement of roughly 9.22 million new shares at CAD 0.65 each, grossing about CAD 6 million. Proceeds are earmarked for the feasibility study at the Georgia Lake mining project, further work on the Red Rock converter and general working capital.

Neither company has confirmed the transaction. Rheinmetall declined to comment on possible deals when approached by MT Newswires, and Rock Tech has yet to officially verify the terms.

Guben Remains the Bigger Question

Bloomberg's report goes beyond the corporate-level investment: Rheinmetall is said to be considering a direct stake in the planned lithium hydroxide converter in Guben, Brandenburg. No agreement or contribution figure has been confirmed.

That project carries an estimated price tag of around EUR 680 million, already trimmed by EUR 50 million under management's cost-cutting. Once built, it would target roughly 24,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide a year, a volume that could anchor European supply chains. Against that figure, Rheinmetall's CAD 3.25 million covers only a sliver of the total capital requirement.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rock Tech Lithium?

If the informal talks harden into a binding project-level partnership, the calculus changes. An anchor investor of Rheinmetall's standing would bring equity, political weight and industrial credibility — potentially unlocking lenders, subsidy programmes and institutional backers. Should Guben reach its planned output, Rock Tech would graduate from developer to producer of a critical raw material in Central Europe, a shift the market has so far discounted heavily.

The downside case is equally stark. Without a substantial project-level commitment, construction delays and further dilutive raises at poor prices become the base case, eroding the position of existing shareholders. Should Rheinmetall's interest prove to be a passive portfolio holding with no operational role at the plant, the recent share-price recovery could unravel quickly, with the stock vulnerable to a retreat toward its 52-week low of EUR 0.3460.

Red Rock Adds a Second Front

Events in Canada are moving in parallel. Rock Tech is advancing the Red Rock converter in Ontario alongside the Georgia Lake mine, with a definitive feasibility study due in December 2026. Preliminary numbers put total capital costs at CAD 596 million for roughly 30,000 tonnes of lithium salts a year, with management attaching a 20% margin of error to the estimate.

The Northern Miner noted that Rock Tech has yet to break down the bulk of the sharp cost reduction versus earlier estimates; that detail is reserved for the December 2026 study, which will show whether the savings hold up under real-world conditions.

On the regulatory side, Ontario's Ministry of Energy and Mines proposed about a month ago to grant Rock Tech a permit for early exploration activities south of Beardmore. The public consultation period runs until 24 October.

What Investors Are Watching

At a market capitalisation of EUR 49.61 million and a share price of EUR 0.3880 — 51% below its 52-week high — the stock still carries a heavy risk discount for the possibility that full financing never comes together. Holding above the EUR 0.3460 support zone keeps the recovery case alive for risk-tolerant buyers; a break below would suggest the market views the Rheinmetall link as insufficient for a durable turn.

The next hard catalyst is an official completion notice or a detailed clarification from either company. Only binding contracts covering the size of any Guben stake, together with offtake or supply arrangements, will show how much substance sits behind the current reports. Until then, Rock Tech's path hinges on whether the Guben site gets locked down in signed agreements rather than market chatter.
