Rheinmetall has picked up a multi-year framework contract to handle repair and maintenance work on four new liquefied natural gas-powered customs vessels on behalf of Germany's Generalzolldirektion, the federal customs authority. The agreement covers routine servicing along with repairs and an emergency response service for the ships.

The naval support deal lands alongside a string of other operational milestones the defense group has notched up away from its headline large-scale programs, just as investors await the company's nine-month figures.

Unmanned Systems Tested in NATO Exercise

Rheinmetall took part in the NATO REPMUS26 exercise in Portugal, which ran until September 25, putting networked unmanned systems through their paces for the protection of harbors and critical maritime infrastructure. The group also wrapped up testing on training systems and unmanned maritime platforms, extending its reach beyond traditional major projects.

American Arm Secures $20.7 Million Army Contract

Across the Atlantic, American Rheinmetall Defense booked an order from the U.S. Army through ADS and the Defense Logistics Agency worth USD 20.7 million, or roughly EUR 18.05 million. The award covers production of 3,104 upgraded MK93 softmount gun mounts plus modernization of 245 existing systems, with deliveries running through October 2027. Work is set to begin in 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

For the U.S. unit, the contract lifts operational utilization in vehicle and troop equipment, while reinforcing Rheinmetall's foothold in a market where the Pentagon keeps channeling funds into the upkeep and modernization of its weapons systems.

Satellite Reaches Orbit, Norwegian Site Opens

Space-based reconnaissance marked another front. Rheinmetall and Argotec placed their first jointly developed satellite for military air-defense surveillance into orbit, launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base. A follow-up mission under the same partnership is slated for 2028.

In Northern Europe, subsidiary Rheinmetall Nordic expanded its footprint with a new site in Skoppum, Norway, offering 4,579 square meters of gross floor area for development, production, system integration and lifecycle support. The facility opened with 100 employees on site and operates under a 15-year lease.

Insider Purchases Ahead of November Report

Leadership-level transactions also drew attention. CEO Armin Theodor Papperger bought Rheinmetall shares worth a total of EUR 498,947.80 on Tuesday, acquired in two separate tranches. The Sara Georgi Foundation, closely associated with supervisory board member Andreas Arthur Georgi, picked up 250 shares on Friday for EUR 238,706.60. Such moves by senior figures tend to draw scrutiny from market participants, who often read management buying as a signal of confidence in the company's trajectory.

Rheinmetall's next scheduled financial report arrives on November 5, 2026, with the third-quarter statement covering business performance from January through the end of September.

Shares Sit Above 52-Week Low

The stock closed Friday's session at EUR 959.80, a gain of 1.0 percent on the day, leaving it 6.3 percent above its 52-week low. That level also puts the shares 12 percent below their 50-day moving average of EUR 1,086.49.
