Rheinmetall's position in core army equipment programs received fresh backing this week after the Bundestag's budget committee signed off on a new defense and equipment package, drawing on Berlin's €100 billion special fund for the Bundeswehr. The approval covers central modernization projects, adding tailwind for the Düsseldorf-based group in areas where it is already a key supplier.

The stock told a more complicated story. Shares changed hands at €998.70 on the day of the committee decision, down 2.3%, even as the same week brought a string of contract wins across the group's naval, training and industrial businesses. A day earlier, the equity had closed at €1,021.80, up 2.7%, as investors registered the steady flow of new orders.

Radar Satellites Take Shape in Neuss

Beyond the committee's decision, procurement of autonomous systems is gaining definition. Stark Defence is preparing to deliver combat drones under a first tranche worth €275 million, while Rheinmetall continues to build out its space footprint on schedule. Through Rheinmetall Iceye Space Solutions — a joint venture with its Finnish partner in which the Düsseldorf group holds 60% — production capacity for radar satellites is being established in Neuss.

Customs Fleet Contract Anchors Maritime Service Business

On the maritime side, the Federal Customs Administration awarded the group's naval division a multi-year framework agreement for the technical operation of four new LNG-powered customs cruisers. The contract covers maintenance, repairs and emergency technical assistance at the vessels' berths in Lubmin, Neustadt in Holstein, Wilhelmshaven and Emden.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

Three of the 55-meter aluminum ships were previously built at the Wolgast yard and handed over last year. Rheinmetall strengthened its hand in the upkeep of specialized vessel platforms after taking over the NVL activities from the Lürssen Group in March — a move that has helped shift the division's revenue mix toward recurring service work in the public-sector segment, away from pure newbuild manufacturing.

Unmanned Systems Tested at REPMUS26

The company also put networked unmanned systems through their paces on Monday during the REPMUS26 exercise. The live trial was designed to test new technologies for protecting ports and critical maritime infrastructure. Demand for such automated surveillance solutions has been rising in step with European states' heightened security requirements.

NanoLam Funding and a Fresh Artillery Order

Technology work in the industrial segment advanced as well. Subsidiary Pierburg Pump Technology secured a funding commitment of roughly €1.5 million on Tuesday, earmarked for innovative production of NanoLam capacitors, where total investment runs to more than €4.4 million.

The recent run of announcements extends a strong month for order intake. On September 14, Rheinmetall reported a major contract for 155mm artillery ammunition from an international customer. The deal covers a volume in the low five-digit unit range, carries a value in the low triple-digit millions of euros, and sets delivery for 2027.

A Bruising Year, but Signs of Stabilization

For all the operational momentum, the shares remain under pressure over a longer horizon. The stock is down 34% since the start of the year. Yet the recent stabilization suggests investors are once again giving weight to the group's persistently high utilization rates and its broad-based positioning across multiple defense segments.
