Rheinmetall shares shed 2.0% on Friday, caught in a broad pullback across German defence names as investors weighed planned Ukraine talks in Abu Dhabi and an approaching earnings season. RENK, HENSOLDT and TKMS all retreated alongside the Düsseldorf-based group, and no company-specific announcement accounted for the slide, according to media reports.

The stock move came in the same week that police confirmed they are examining a purported claim of responsibility posted online for a fire at a Rheinmetall construction site at Kassel-Calden airport. Three pieces of construction machinery burned out at the site overnight into Friday. Officers are treating the blaze as suspected arson and are looking into a possible political motive, with the authenticity of the letter still under review and no perpetrator or motive confirmed.

Rheinmetall intends to base logistics operations and drone facilities on the Calden site. The State Security unit is handling the investigation, which initially proceeded on the assumption of deliberate fire-setting.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

Mangalia Award, Caracal Deliveries and a New Gun Hall

Away from the investigation, the group's order book and production footprint have been expanding. Roughly two weeks ago, Rheinmetall and MSC won an auction for the joint takeover of Romania's Mangalia shipyard, with the partners set to pay a purchase price of around EUR 138 million.

On the deliveries front, Rheinmetall announced the handover of the first series-production Caracal vehicles to the German and Dutch armed forces — the start of serial shipments to both customers. Under company plans, more than 1,500 vehicles are to be delivered by 2030.

In the UK, Rheinmetall Defence UK opened the UK Gun Hall in Telford on 22 October, restoring independent large-calibre weapons manufacturing to Britain. At full capacity the facility is designed to turn out up to 245 barrels and more than 50 breech mechanisms a year. Rheinmetall put its investment in the United Kingdom over the past five years at more than GBP 200 million.

Naval Portfolio in the Spotlight

The company also said it will present its portfolio for naval forces at Euronaval, running from 3 to 6 November 2026. Investors will get a fuller read on the business two days into that show: Rheinmetall has scheduled its third-quarter 2026 results for 5 November 2026, covering the period from 1 January to 30 September 2026. That release lands squarely in the reporting season that media reports have cited as part of the sector's recent drag.
