Rheinmetall's Quiet Manufacturing Bet Stretches From Norwegian Soil to Low Earth Orbit

Rheinmetall is widening its technological footprint well beyond the headline-grabbing large-scale programs that anchor its core defense business, pushing into specialized industrial and security-related applications on several fronts at once.
A case in point is subsidiary Pierburg Pump Technology, which is set to receive roughly EUR 1.5 million in public funding to refine production processes for so-called NanoLam™ capacitors. The unit itself plans to invest more than EUR 4.4 million to advance novel manufacturing methods tied to the technology.
A Week of Contract Wins and Insider Buying
The push into specialized fabrication sits alongside a string of operational moves. On the maritime side, Rheinmetall demonstrated networked unmanned systems designed to protect maritime infrastructure during NATO's REPMUS26 exercise in Portugal in September.
In the security and reconnaissance segment, a satellite developed jointly with Argotec for military air-defense surveillance was carried into orbit earlier this month aboard a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket. A follow-up mission under the same partnership is penciled in for 2028.
Stateside, the group's American Rheinmetall unit secured a U.S. Army order on Wednesday covering the production of 3,104 new MK93 softmount gun carriages plus the modernization of 245 existing systems. Rheinmetall values the deal at approximately EUR 18.05 million (USD 20.7 million), with deliveries to the armed forces slated to begin in 2026 and run through October of the following year. The award strengthens the American unit's operational load in vehicle and troop equipment while cementing the company's presence in a U.S. market where the Department of Defense keeps investing steadily in the upkeep and modernization of its weapons systems.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?
Leadership was active on the market as well. CEO Armin Theodor Papperger acquired 525 company shares on Tuesday across two separate tranches, for a combined transaction volume of EUR 498,947.80. Investors tend to watch such management purchases closely, reading them as a signal of confidence in the company's own trajectory.
Nordic Footprint and Space Ambitions
Parallel to its U.S. work, Rheinmetall is deepening its Nordic structures through subsidiary Rheinmetall Nordic. A new site has been established at Skoppum in Norway, spanning 4,579 square meters and staffed with 100 employees at the start of operations. The property is tied to a lease running 15 years.
Analyst Support and a Shifting Shareholder Register
The operational momentum has not gone unnoticed in the capital markets. Private bank Berenberg rated Rheinmetall stock a "Buy" on September 24, attaching a price target of EUR 1,600.
Ownership structure saw movement too. A voting-rights notification dated September 25 disclosed a 2.78 percent stake in Rheinmetall held by FMR LLC.
Where the Shares Stand
The stock closed Friday's session at EUR 959.80, a daily gain of 1.0 percent. At that level, the shares trade 6.3 percent above their 52-week low of EUR 902.50, marked back in June.
November Looms Large
For investors, the coming weeks are likely to hinge on operating performance. Fresh catalysts are expected from the next set of results: Rheinmetall will publish its third-quarter 2026 report, covering the period from January through the end of September, on November 5, 2026. That interim update will show how strongly the expanding project pipeline is already feeding through to the group's operating profit.
