Rheinmetall continues to stack up contracts across its defense and civilian operations, yet the equity market remains unmoved. The Düsseldorf-based arms maker closed Friday's session at EUR 986.60, a daily decline of 0.9%, extending its year-to-date loss to 36%. The DAX group's market capitalization now stands at EUR 46.20 billion.
Fresh Munitions Order Worth Hundreds of Millions
The company disclosed on September 14 that an unnamed international customer had placed an order for several tens of thousands of 155-millimeter artillery shells. The contract, booked in the third quarter of 2026, carries a value in the low triple-digit millions of euros. Deliveries are slated to begin next year and wrap up entirely by 2027.
The deal reinforces the sustained appetite for heavy-caliber ammunition among international armed forces, with large-caliber weapons and munitions remaining a cornerstone of Rheinmetall's defense portfolio.
Papperger Warns on Missile Stockpiles, Flags Skyranger Timeline
Chief executive Armin Papperger used a mid-September media interview to sound an alarm over Germany's missile inventories, describing them as "alarmingly low." He pointed to forthcoming production ramp-ups in response, confirming that series deliveries of the Skyranger air-defense system are scheduled to commence in 2027. The pairing of traditional ammunition output with newer technology programs is shaping the group's operational roadmap for the years ahead.

Autonomous Systems Put to the Test at NATO Exercise
Beyond land-based hardware, Rheinmetall is sharpening its profile in maritime security and uncrewed platforms. At the NATO REPMUS26 exercise in Portugal, which ran from August 31 and concluded on Friday, the company showcased networked autonomous systems built specifically to guard harbors and critical maritime infrastructure. The demonstration reflects Rheinmetall's push to extend beyond its traditional land-systems division into connected defense scenarios.
Component Subsidiary Secures Regional Funding
On the civilian side, Rheinmetall's Pierburg Pump Technology GmbH received roughly EUR 1.5 million in public funding on Tuesday for its Hartha site in Saxony. UK Test Facility and Vehicle Partnership Advance
Rheinmetall UK commissioned a new Vibration Test Facility at its Telford site on September 17. The specialized rig will feed into development work on the British Challenger 3 main battle tank, among other programs.
Protected wheeled vehicles also featured in the company's UK activity. Together with Mercedes-Benz UK, Rheinmetall presented the Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf military vehicles at the DVD 2026 trade fair on September 17. Both are built on Mercedes-Benz's W464 platform and slot into the existing vehicle family. The two partners formalized their strategic alliance, branded Team Wolf, on September 16 for the British armed forces' mobility program. Rheinmetall's RBSL facility in Telford will act as the integration hub handling systems integration, testing and validation.
