Rheinmetall's Order Book Stretches From a Norwegian Industrial Park to Low Earth Orbit

Rheinmetall closed Friday at EUR 959.80, up 1.0%, still 6.3% above its 52-week low, as US Army orders and Nordic expansion continued.

Rheinmetall's week began with hardware and ended with a share price that tells a more complicated story than the headlines suggest. The Düsseldorf-based defense group closed Friday at EUR 959.80, up 1.0% on the day, yet still sitting just 6.3% above its 52-week low — a valuation gap that persists even as contract announcements pile up across three continents.

That pipeline got a fresh addition midweek. American Rheinmetall, the group's U.S. subsidiary, secured a U.S. Army order through ADS Inc. and the Defense Logistics Agency covering the production of 3,104 new MK93 softmount gun carriages alongside the refurbishment of 245 existing units. Rheinmetall values the deal at roughly EUR 18.05 million, or USD 20.7 million. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026 and run through October of the following year.

For the American arm, the contract keeps production lines busy on vehicle and troop equipment while reinforcing the group's foothold in a U.S. market where the Pentagon continues to channel steady spending into the upkeep and modernization of its weapons platforms.

A Nordic Hub and a Satellite in Orbit

The U.S. award was far from the only operational development. Rheinmetall Nordic opened a new facility in Skoppum, Norway, spanning 4,579 square meters of development and systems-integration capacity, staffed by 100 employees at launch under a 15-year lease. The site strengthens the group's industrial footprint across Northern Europe.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

Space offered the more dramatic headline. Rheinmetall Italia and aerospace partner Argotec launched their first jointly developed satellite for military early-warning and air-defense surveillance, riding a SpaceX Falcon-9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base. A second mission under the same collaboration is penciled in for 2028.

Munitions, Maintenance and a Training System

Earlier in the month, on September 14, Rheinmetall disclosed a major order for 155mm artillery ammunition from an international customer. The contract volume sits in the low triple-digit millions of euros, with delivery slated for 2027 — a reminder that demand for conventional munitions among partner forces remains firmly intact.

Technical milestones followed in quick succession. Rheinmetall UK commissioned a new vibration testing rig at its Telford site on September 17, currently supporting the Challenger 3 tank program. On September 23, the group announced a framework agreement for maintenance work on four customs patrol vessels. Rheinmetall Electronics and Rheinmetall Landsysteme also completed factory acceptance of the new live-fire and combat training system for the Schwerer Waffenträger Infanterie.

Insider Buying Ahead of Quarterly Results

Leadership added its own signal. CEO Armin Papperger purchased 525 company shares on Tuesday across two separate tranches on Xetra, for a combined EUR 498,947.80. Management transactions of this kind draw close attention from investors, who often read them as a vote of confidence in the company's trajectory.

The next hard data point arrives November 5, 2026, when Rheinmetall publishes its third-quarter report. Before then, the group will take the stage at the AUSA trade fair in Washington, D.C., running October 11–14, 2026 — a platform to showcase new systems and technologies to military representatives and, perhaps, to close the gap between its order book and its share price.
