Rheinmetall insiders invested €737,654 as shares trade near a 52-week low; the defense group also won a $20.7M U.S. Army contract.

Rheinmetall's leadership is putting money behind its own story. Over the past week, two separate insider transactions have funneled a combined €737,654 into the Düsseldorf defense group's stock, even as the share price hovers near the bottom of its 52-week range.

The most recent move came from the supervisory board side. The Sara Georgi Stiftung, linked to board member Andreas Georgi, acquired shares through a managerial transaction worth €238,706.60. That followed CEO Armin Theodor Papperger's own purchase of 525 shares on Tuesday, executed in two separate tranches for a total of €498,947.80.

Such dealings by senior executives and board members tend to draw close scrutiny from investors, who often read them as a vote of confidence in the company's trajectory. In Rheinmetall's case, that confidence rests on an order book that keeps expanding regardless of short-term political noise.

Washington Adds Another Line Item

The group's American subsidiary, American Rheinmetall Defense, secured fresh work from the U.S. Army this week. The agreement covers production of 3,104 new MK93 softmount gun mounts along with modernization of 245 existing systems. Rheinmetall values the deal at roughly €18.05 million, or $20.7 million.

Deliveries to U.S. forces are scheduled to begin in 2026 and run through October of the following year. For the American unit, the contract reinforces operational utilization in vehicle and troop equipment, while cementing the company's foothold in a U.S. market where the Defense Department keeps investing in the upkeep and modernization of its weapons systems.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

That U.S. award is far from an isolated event. On September 14, Rheinmetall landed a major order from an international customer for several tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells, a package valued in the low triple-digit millions of euros with deliveries starting in 2027.

From Norwegian Real Estate to Low Earth Orbit

Beyond munitions and gun mounts, the group is steadily widening its industrial and technological footprint. Its Rheinmetall Nordic subsidiary has opened a new facility in Skoppum, Norway, spanning 4,579 square meters and staffed by 100 employees at launch. The site operates under a 15-year lease.

In space, Rheinmetall and aerospace partner Argotec placed their first jointly developed satellite for military air-defense surveillance into orbit, launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon-9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base. A follow-up mission under the same collaboration is planned for 2028.

Closer to home, subsidiary Pierburg Pump Technology received roughly €1.5 million in grant funding on September 22 to develop production processes for NanoLam capacitors — a reminder that Rheinmetall's portfolio reaches well beyond classic defense hardware.

Analysts Look Past the Selloff

The stock's recent weakness has been tied to geopolitical signals. Reports of possible diplomatic overtures and debate over a limited ceasefire triggered notable profit-taking across European defense names in recent weeks. Rheinmetall closed Friday at €959.80, up 1.0% on the day, but that still leaves the shares down 38% since the start of the year and more than halved from their 52-week high of €2,007.00. The closing level sits just 6.3% above the 52-week low.

Analysts, by contrast, remain focused on the longer arc. Berenberg reaffirmed its buy rating on September 24 with a €1,600 price target, with analyst Chris Armstrong pointing to continued fiscal and economic momentum in Germany. MWB Research upgraded the defense group from "Sell" to "Hold" on September 21.

For a company whose order intake spans artillery shells, U.S. Army hardware, Norwegian facilities and orbital reconnaissance, the gap between the market's mood and the analysts' targets is one insiders appear willing to bet on.
