Rheinmetall Heads to Perth Trade Show With Order Book Filling Across Land, Sea and Space

Rheinmetall will showcase its land-systems portfolio at the Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition in Perth from October 5 to 8, putting the Asia-Pacific region squarely in its sights. The Düsseldorf-based defense contractor is using the Australian industry gathering to present modern ground equipment to a specialist audience, at a moment when market watchers are looking to such events for signals on future cooperation and procurement plans among international armed forces.
The stock closed out the trading week on a positive note, finishing Friday up 1.0% at EUR 959.80. That modest advance followed a stretch of pronounced selling pressure on European defense shares in late September, triggered by reports of an invitation extended to Vladimir Putin for a G20 summit. By the end of the week, the Düsseldorf listing had steadied.
Nordic Hub Opens as Insider Buying Continues
Rheinmetall's European footprint expanded Thursday with the official opening of a new site in Skoppum, Norway, by subsidiary Rheinmetall Nordic AS — a move that underscores the group's operational integration across Scandinavia.
Leadership has been signaling confidence in tandem with that expansion. CEO Armin Theodor Papperger acquired 525 Rheinmetall shares on Tuesday through the Xetra electronic trading system in two separate transactions, for a total of EUR 498,947.80. Further purchases followed later in the week via the Georgi Foundation, which is closely tied to supervisory board member Andreas Georgi.
On the shareholder register, a voting-rights notification disclosed a 2.78% stake for FMR LLC, with September 18 given as the date the threshold was crossed.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?
Satellite, U.S. Army Order and Naval Work Broaden the Pipeline
The company's international project portfolio has been firing on multiple fronts. Working with Argotec, Rheinmetall placed a first satellite into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, designed to generate early-warning and reconnaissance data for ground-based air defense.
In the United States, subsidiary American Rheinmetall picked up an order from the U.S. Army covering production of 3,104 new MK93 softmount gun mounts plus modernization of 245 existing systems. The program carries a value of roughly EUR 18.05 million, or USD 20.7 million, with deliveries running from 2026 through October 2027.
Naval Systems secured a framework agreement about two weeks ago for the repair and maintenance of four new LNG customs vessels. Earlier, at NATO exercise REPMUS26, Rheinmetall tested networked unmanned systems for protecting maritime infrastructure, with a mobile system serving the German Navy as a deployable operations center.
Munitions activity is also building. On September 14, Rheinmetall reported an order from an international customer for a five-digit quantity of 155mm artillery shells, with delivery slated for 2027 and a contract volume in the low triple-digit millions of euros.
Chip Funding and UK Partnership Round Out the Push
Technological key projects are advancing in parallel. On September 22, a Rheinmetall subsidiary secured funding to develop manufacturing processes for NanoLam capacitors.
In the United Kingdom, Rheinmetall UK and Mercedes-Benz UK reinforced their Team Wolf partnership about two weeks ago for the British Army program, naming Telford as the integration center.
The various initiatives highlight how the defense group is broadening its activities across multiple branches of the armed forces — maritime, land systems and electronics components alike. With the Perth trade show approaching, Rheinmetall remains present in key international markets. Investors, meanwhile, are already looking ahead to the scheduled financial report, with third-quarter 2026 figures due on November 5, 2026 — a milestone at which the operational traction of the recent initiatives will face scrutiny.
Despite Friday's stabilizing gain, the share remains under broader pressure, showing a decline of 38% since the start of the year.
