Rheinmetall's manufacturing footprint widened on two fronts this week, with the defence group opening a large-calibre weapons facility in Telford and confirming the first series deliveries of its Caracal airmobile vehicles. Investors, however, had other things on their minds. The stock shed 2.0% on Friday to close at €1,032.60, with media reports pointing to nerves over planned talks between Russia, Ukraine and the United States rather than any company-specific announcement.

Those discussions are expected to take place in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November. The prospect of a diplomatic thaw has weighed on German defence names across the board, even as Rheinmetall's order book continues to fill.

Deutsche Bank Trims Target Ahead of Capital Markets Day

Deutsche Bank cut its price target on the shares on Tuesday to €1,650 from €1,800, while leaving its buy recommendation in place. Analyst Christoph Laskawi flagged a dilemma of expectations facing the company at its upcoming capital markets day: investors, in his view, are braced for a reduction in the 2030 targets, yet Rheinmetall must simultaneously present credible building blocks for its planned ramp-up.

Arson Investigation at Kassel-Calden Site

Away from the markets, dpa-AFX reported that authorities are investigating suspected arson at a Rheinmetall construction site at Kassel-Calden airport. Three construction vehicles burned in the night to Friday and additional machinery was damaged. Police were examining a purported claim of responsibility posted online, and according to Tagesschau the state security service was also involved. Investigators suspect arson, though no confirmed cause has been announced.

Schakal Order and Caracal Handover

On the operational side, Rheinmetall said Thursday that OCCAR had placed an order for a further 69 Schakal wheeled armoured vehicles through ARTEC, the joint venture it runs with KNDS Deutschland. Rheinmetall put the contract value in the mid three-digit million-euro range. The vehicles are destined for Germany and the Netherlands, with delivery currently scheduled between May 2032 and November 2033.

A day later, the group confirmed the handover of the first Caracal series vehicles to the Bundeswehr and the Dutch armed forces. The ceremony took place Thursday at the Ede production site. More than 1,500 vehicles are to be delivered in total by 2030.

Telford Gun Hall and Naval Showcase

Rheinmetall opened its "UK Gun Hall" in Telford on 22 October, a facility the company says is designed for independent manufacture of large-calibre weapons in Britain. The group also announced it will present its naval portfolio at Euronaval, running from 3 to 6 November 2026, including the Kraken K3 drone, the Millennium Gun naval cannon and the MASS decoy system.

Sensors for Skynex and Skymaster

Also on Friday, Rheinmetall agreed a deal with Silvus Technologies for the supply of passive high-frequency sensors. The Silvus RFeye units are to be integrated into the Skynex air-defence system and the Skymaster command platform.

Shareholders will get their next look at the numbers on 5 November 2026, when Rheinmetall publishes its third-quarter report.
