Rheinmetall Expands Nordic Industrial Base as Analysts Hold Firm on Upside

Rheinmetall has widened its manufacturing reach in Northern Europe, with subsidiary Rheinmetall Nordic AS cutting the ribbon on a new facility in the Norwegian town of Skoppum on Thursday. The site adds capacity across development, production, systems integration, logistics and customer support — a footprint that dovetails with the Düsseldorf group's broader push to build out Europe's defense supply and servicing network.
The market took the news in stride. Rheinmetall shares ended Friday at EUR 959.80, up 1.0% on the day, though the stock remains 38% lower since the start of the year. That pullback has done little to shake the confidence of the analyst community, which continues to see substantial room to the upside.
Bernstein and Berenberg Keep Bullish Stances
Bernstein Research reaffirmed an "Outperform" rating on September 21 with a price target of EUR 1,900. Four days later, on September 25, Berenberg reiterated its "Buy" call and a EUR 1,600 target. According to media reports citing dpa-AFX, a recovering German economy is currently overshadowing the outlook for the defense business — a dynamic that weighs on sector sentiment even as demand for military equipment stays elevated.
Insider activity offered another signal. CEO Armin Theodor Papperger acquired additional shares in his own company through a directors' dealing disclosed in late September, according to a mandatory notification.

Naval Contract and Chip Funding Advance Operations
Rheinmetall has also logged fresh wins in specialized business lines. On September 23, the Rheinmetall Naval Systems division secured a multi-year maintenance and repair contract from Germany's General Customs Directorate covering four new LNG customs vessels — a deal that locks in recurring service revenue for maritime operations.
Technology development is moving ahead in parallel. Rheinmetall announced on September 22 that subsidiary Pierburg Pump Technology GmbH is receiving grant funding under the NanoLink project, aimed at developing industrial production processes for NanoLam capacitors. The same subsidiary was awarded roughly EUR 1.5 million in public funding for NanoLam capacitor manufacturing, with total planned investment in the project exceeding EUR 4.4 million.
Testing Milestones Across Land and Sea
The group notched several technical achievements in quick succession. On September 22, its new training device for gunnery and combat instruction on the schwerer Waffenträger Infanterie — the infantry heavy weapons carrier — passed factory acceptance. A day earlier, on September 21, Rheinmetall put networked unmanned systems through their paces at the NATO REPMUS26 exercise, testing harbor and critical infrastructure protection concepts.
Earlier in the month, Rheinmetall UK broadened its British testing capabilities with a new vibration test rig at its Telford site, announced September 17.
Ownership Shift and a Date With the Numbers
There was movement in the shareholder base as well: FMR LLC reported a changed voting rights position on September 25, following a threshold crossing on September 18, 2026.
Investors now turn their attention to the company's third-quarter report, scheduled for release on November 5, 2026. The coming weeks should reveal how this run of operational progress translates into the financials — and whether the analysts' lofty targets hold up against the actual numbers.
