Rheinmetall shares closed Friday at EUR 1,090.20, up 5.4%, as a broad recovery across European defense names lifted the sector. Market watchers, citing media reports, tied the advance to mounting doubts over future US support for Ukraine and persistent geopolitical tensions rather than to any single company announcement. An upbeat sector assessment from Morgan Stanley added further tailwind.

The renewed debate over Europe's security architecture has sharpened investor focus on the production capacity of domestic manufacturers, helping the stock claw back ground after a stretch dogged by uncertainty. Over seven days the paper has gained 14% and now trades above its 50-day moving average of EUR 1,051.64.

Shipyard Win and Spanish Ammunition Line

On the operational front, the group expanded its footprint in Southeastern Europe. On October 9, subsidiary Rheinmetall Real Estate România SRL won the auction for the shipyard assets of Damen Shipyards Mangalia, with insolvency administrator CITR putting the auction price at EUR 138,034,320.47 excluding VAT.

Munitions capacity grew in parallel. Spanish subsidiary Rheinmetall Expal Munitions commissioned a new medium-caliber production facility in Albacete, an investment the group pegged at roughly EUR 20 million. The plant is designed to turn out about 1.2 million projectiles and 1.8 million cartridge cases a year, for a total of some three million medium-caliber components annually.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

Hydrogen Memorandum and US Technology Showcase

Rheinmetall also pushed its own projects forward last week. On Tuesday the company signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Nel ASA to jointly examine decentralized production options for renewable fuels, part of Rheinmetall's Giga-PtX project. The effort aims to build technological expertise beyond traditional defense goods, as decentralized energy concepts and synthetic fuels play a growing role in future security and supply structures. Whether firm contracts follow depends on further review by both partners.

Across the Atlantic, US subsidiary American Rheinmetall presented new technologies for the US Army at the AUSA defense trade fair in Washington from October 12 to 14, including combat and autonomous vehicles, air-defense systems and ammunition.

Credit Line Doubled Ahead of Quarterly Results

To secure long-term financial headroom for general corporate purposes, the group renewed its syndicated credit facility early this month, doubling the volume from EUR 750 million to EUR 1.5 billion.

Analyst support for the fundamental story also continues. Deutsche Bank Research analyst Christoph Laskawi reaffirmed his buy rating on October 6 with a price target of EUR 1,800, citing expected quarterly figures and upcoming contract awards as key drivers. Investors now look to the next official financial date: Rheinmetall has scheduled third-quarter 2026 results for November 5, 2026, when order development and the expanded manufacturing base will show through in the balance sheet.
