Rheinmetall confirms a new 155mm artillery munitions order and a Bundeswehr medical deal, while its shares trade 35% below the start of the year.

Rheinmetall's pipeline of new business keeps expanding even as its equity struggles to regain footing. The Düsseldorf-based defence group confirmed a fresh artillery munitions contract on Monday, booked a Bundeswehr medical order earlier in the summer, and used a UK trade show to unveil two new vehicle types — all while its stock trades 35% below where it started the year.

Skyranger Timeline Locked In

CEO Armin Papperger, speaking in a media interview on Thursday, said the contractually agreed serial delivery of the Skyranger air-defence system must begin in 2027. He also voiced concern about Germany's defensive readiness, describing the country's missile stockpiles as alarmingly thin. The Skyranger programme forms a key pillar of Rheinmetall's medium-term supply commitments to European armed forces, and Papperger's warning underscores the persistent pressure on NATO partners to close capability gaps in air defence.

New Wheels for the British Army

At the DVD 2026 trade fair in the United Kingdom, Rheinmetall presented the "Timber Wolf" and "Silver Wolf" vehicle models alongside Mercedes-Benz UK. Marketed under the "Team Wolf" partnership banner, the wheeled platforms are aimed squarely at British Army procurement requirements.

Order Book Keeps Growing

The company's sales machine has been running hot. Monday brought word of a further major contract for 155mm artillery ammunition from an international customer, with a volume in the low triple-digit million-euro range. The order will be recognised in the third quarter of 2026, with delivery slated for 2027.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

That win follows a substantial Bundeswehr award announced on 17 August for 149 additional mobile rescue stations worth more than EUR 500 million gross. Combined with a tranche booked in July, the programme now covers 165 systems with a total value exceeding EUR 600 million.

These gains build on the operational expansion Rheinmetall laid out in its first-half figures. When the group reported second-quarter 2026 numbers on 6 August, it disclosed quarterly revenue.

Analysts Split, Shares Under Pressure

Market sentiment, however, remains cautious. The stock closed Friday at EUR 1,016.00, down 35% since the start of the year. JPMorgan added to the downbeat tone on 10 September, rating the shares "Neutral" and placing them on its Negative Catalyst Watch list. Countering that view, media reports on 11 September flagged a positive buy rating from BNP Paribas.

Investors will get a clearer picture of how the recent order intake feeds through to the numbers when Rheinmetall publishes its third-quarter results, expected on 5 November.
