Rheinmetall shares closed Friday's Xetra session at EUR 1,090.20, up 5.4%, capping a week in which the Düsseldorf defence group gained 17%. The advance came not from a single company-specific catalyst but from a broad revival in European defence names, as traders weighed growing doubts over future US military support for Ukraine and a Brussels meeting between European leaders and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The debate over Europe's future security architecture and its capacity to arm itself has moved back to the front of the market's mind, with participants reading the geopolitical chatter as a signal that European buyers will have to accelerate procurement programmes over the medium term.

Morgan Stanley added fuel to that thesis, floating the expectation that additional orders could flow from defence budgets before the year is out. The stock's run, however, has done little to repair the year-to-date picture: Rheinmetall is still down 30% since January.

Capacity, Contracts and a Bigger Credit Facility

Underneath the sector-wide tailwind, the company kept pushing its industrial build-out. Subsidiary Rheinmetall Expal Munitions commissioned a medium-calibre production line at its Albacete site in Spain, an investment of roughly EUR 20 million designed to turn out about three million ammunition components a year — a capacity of some 1.2 million projectiles and 1.8 million cartridge cases annually. The expansion is set to lift the local workforce from around 210 to roughly 300.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

On the international front, Rheinmetall Defence Australia agreed on 7 October to supply Praetorian Aeronautics with the containerised AERIE system for countering unmanned aerial vehicles, and demonstrated networked vehicle systems on the Boxer CRV wheeled armoured vehicle together with partners. A day earlier, the Rheinmetall ICEYE Space Solutions joint venture reported progress on the SPOCK 1 programme, which gives the Bundeswehr direct access to synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) reconnaissance satellites.

To fund the expansion, the executive board renewed the syndicated credit line ahead of schedule on 8 October and doubled the facility from EUR 750 million to EUR 1.5 billion. The new line is available for general corporate purposes and widens the group's financial headroom.

A Split Analyst Verdict Ahead of 5 November

Opinion on the stock is divided. Berenberg cut its rating from "Buy" to "Hold" just over a week ago and slashed its price target from EUR 1,600 to EUR 1,020, citing uncertainty over revenue development after 2030. Bernstein took the other side, reaffirming an "Outperform" rating with a EUR 1,200 target.

Hard numbers arrive shortly. Rheinmetall publishes its third-quarter interim report on 5 November 2026 at 07:30, followed by a results presentation that afternoon. Whether the stock can build on its recent recovery is likely to hinge on order intake and those upcoming figures.
