Renk Seals Huddersfield Submarine Drive Purchase, Adding 530 Staff and a £700 Million Pipeline
Published on 11/08/2026 at 15:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk has wrapped up its acquisition of David Brown Defence from Stellex Capital Management, clearing the last regulatory hurdles on 2 November. The deal brings roughly 530 employees into the fold and hands the German propulsion specialist a combined order book and pipeline worth more than £700 million across 2026 to 2030 — a figure that bundles signed contracts with business Renk hopes to win.
The Huddersfield site, now trading as RENK UK Huddersfield, is earmarked as the group's centre of excellence for submarine drive systems. Management intends to build out that capability from the northern English base.
Order Intake Outpaces Revenue
The closing lands alongside a nine-month trading update that lays out the scale of demand Renk is carrying. Order intake for the first three quarters of 2026 reached €1.66 billion, up 33.6% year on year. Revenue, by contrast, advanced 5.8% to €982.0 million — a gap that leaves plenty of signed work still to be converted into sales.
Profitability moved ahead faster than the top line. Adjusted EBIT climbed 12.7% to €158.8 million, lifting the margin to 16.2%. The backlog stood at €7.6 billion as of 30 September. That snapshot is distinct from the David Brown figure, which folds in future pipeline on top of existing orders.

Guidance Held Despite Conversion Concerns
Full-year targets remain intact: revenue of around €1.4 billion from continuing operations, with adjusted EBIT of between €240 million and €255 million.
Chief executive Alexander Sagel flagged one risk to hitting those numbers, according to Reuters. Delays at prime contractors — the Boxer programme in particular, and postponed decisions rather than any shift in procurement priorities — could slow the pace at which the backlog turns into revenue. Renk itself, he stressed, faces no constraints on production or delivery.
Sagel also put his money where his outlook is. On Thursday he acquired 6,790 shares at €35.17 apiece, a managers' transaction valued at €238,802.94.

Two London Dates on the Calendar
Investors will get further detail in the coming weeks. Renk takes part in the UBS European Conference in London on 10 November, shortly after the quarterly figures and the CEO's share purchase. Then, on 8 December, the company hosts a hybrid strategy update in the capital, where Sagel will set out the group's direction.
