Renk's Slimmer Profile Puts Orders and Margins in the Analyst Spotlight
Published on 10/23/2026 at 07:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk has told the market to expect a stronger order intake than previously forecast while extending its margin improvement — a combination that gives the defence-focused story an operational anchor just as the company reshapes itself around its military business. Platow reported the guidance yesterday. For investors, the reduced size of the group is only half the picture; how orders and profitability develop in what remains is the other half.
What the analysts were already arguing
Warburg Research's Christian Cohrs reaffirmed his buy rating and a EUR 63 price target on 10 August, judging the investment case — underpinned by the defence business — to be confirmed by the company's targets and order books following the second-quarter 2026 figures. The operational side sits at the centre of that view: the argument does not rest solely on a possible re-rating from the group's restructuring, but on expectations for the remaining business.
Holger Schmidt of DZ Bank took a similar line on 7 August, reading the dynamic order intake as support for predictability and future growth. DZ Bank confirmed its buy recommendation and a fair stock value of EUR 64. Both assessments predate the latest transaction, so they explain the positive fundamental stance toward Renk rather than constituting a fresh valuation of the sale's consequences.
A smaller base changes the comparison
The bearings business sold to Miba had been contributing roughly 9% of group revenue. With its disposal, the defence segment carries more weight inside the company. For the current year, Renk now expects about EUR 1.4 billion in revenue from continuing operations, with adjusted EBIT of between EUR 240 million and EUR 255 million.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
Those targets, adjusted yesterday, explicitly exclude the divested unit, so anyone comparing them with earlier expectations has to account for the changed scope of the group. Renk had previously guided to revenue of more than EUR 1.5 billion and adjusted EBIT at the upper end of a EUR 255 million to EUR 285 million range. The guidance revision and the improved order expectation describe different aspects of the same development.
Cash, scale and the price tag
Miba announced the purchase of the Renk plain bearings business yesterday, describing it as the largest acquisition in its corporate history. The acquired operations span five production sites worldwide and 500 employees — a standalone industrial unit rather than a collection of individual assets. According to Renk, the purchase price sits in the lower to middle three-digit million-euro range.
From Renk's side, the emphasis is on a sharper focus on the defence business. Offloading the lower-margin civil division can also free up liquidity for investment and create room to pay down debt. That is a strategic opportunity, not a financing effect already banked, and a leaner set-up does not automatically translate into an immediately higher absolute profit.
The proof still has to come from operations
Shares fell 1.7% yesterday even as several analyst houses reiterated their positive investment ratings — a muted reaction showing that strategic concentration on its own has yet to convince the market. Renk is now forecasting more orders than previously assumed, and Platow reports a continued improvement in margins. Both matter for how the revised annual targets should be read: a lower absolute profit after a disposal does not, by itself, answer the question of earnings quality in the remaining company.
Two dimensions therefore sit side by side in the Renk valuation — the altered size of the group and the trajectory of its continuing activities. The stronger order expectation and the ongoing margin gains argue against judging the defence focus purely on the basis of reduced absolute annual targets. What they do not do is substitute for the still-outstanding task of converting those expectations into actual business results.
