Renk's Order Book Outlook Brightens Even as Analysts Trim Price Targets

Renk expects a stronger order intake than previously forecast and is continuing to improve its margins, Platow reported yesterday — an operational counterweight to the more cautious tone coming from some sell-side desks. For investors, the question is no longer just how small the group becomes after its latest divestment, but how orders and profitability develop in what remains.

A Bigger Pipeline Than Previously Assumed

The upgraded intake expectation reflects a forecast, not orders already booked. Even so, it adds a meaningful data point to the strategic refocus: Renk now anticipates more incoming business than it had previously assumed, while Platow also reports a continued improvement in margins. Both matter when weighing the revised annual targets. A lower absolute profit figure after a disposal does not, on its own, answer the question of earnings quality in the continuing business — that requires a separate look at how the remaining operations are trading and how profitable they are.

Miba Deal Shrinks the Base

The backdrop is yesterday's agreement to sell the plain bearings business to Miba. That unit previously contributed roughly 9% of group revenue. Offloading it gives the defence business greater weight within the group. For the current year, Renk expects around EUR 1.4 billion in revenue from continuing operations, with adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of between EUR 240 million and EUR 255 million. Those targets, revised yesterday, explicitly cover the business excluding the divested unit — so anyone comparing them with earlier expectations has to account for the smaller size of the company. Previously, Renk had guided to revenue of more than EUR 1.5 billion and adjusted EBIT at the upper end of a EUR 255 million to EUR 285 million range.

What Miba Is Paying For

The financial effect of the transaction runs alongside the operating story. Renk puts the purchase price in the lower to mid three-digit million-euro range. Miba described the acquisition as the largest in its corporate history. The business changing hands includes five production sites worldwide and 500 employees — a standalone industrial unit rather than a collection of individual assets.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Long-Dated Gearbox Order

On the order front, Renk and KNDS Deutschland agreed on 14 October to extend a contract worth around EUR 130 million. It covers gearboxes, including transmission control units and gear selector switches, for the LEOPARD 2 and its vehicle family. The deal gives the business a long-term perspective, though its timing matters: deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2029 and finish in 2032, so the agreement touches later financial years rather than near-term revenue.

Analysts Split on the Pace of Ramp-Ups

It is precisely the speed of those programmes that underpins a more skeptical view. JPMorgan said on Wednesday that it expects a slower ramp-up of German tank programmes and weaker prospects in the industrial business. The bank cut its price target to EUR 50 while keeping its "Overweight" rating. Barclays, by contrast, took a positive view yesterday of the strategic separation from the plain bearings business. Analyst Afonso Osorio pointed to attractive entry opportunities; Barclays also lowered its price target but stuck with "Overweight."

A Stake Filing That Says Little About Influence

Separately, UBS reported a higher aggregate position in Renk. The composition is what counts here: the bulk sits in instruments rather than direct voting rights. Direct voting rights account for 0.78%, instruments for 4.28%, with the relevant threshold touched on Tuesday. The disclosed total therefore should not be equated with an equally large direct voting stake, which limits what the filing tells anyone hoping to read it as a sign of greater influence. What is certain is the higher reported aggregate position; an operating assessment of the company cannot be derived from it alone.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The Sale Still Needs Clearance

The disposal of the plain bearings business to Miba remains subject to regulatory approval, and the adjusted annual guidance refers to the continuing business segments. That leaves investors with a clear split: the UBS filing concerns the shareholder structure, the KNDS order the longer-term business outlook. Neither substitutes for scrutiny of operating performance. The next scheduled checkpoint is 5 November 2026, when Renk plans to publish its quarterly statement for the first nine months of 2026 and hold a conference call. The focus will be on how the continuing business is performing between long-term contracts and more cautious ramp-up expectations — and on whether the stronger order pipeline and margin gains flagged by Platow begin to show through in actual results.
