Renk has unveiled a more powerful version of its HSWL 406 transmission, engineered for heavy tracked vehicles in the 50-to-over-70-tonne class and rated at up to 1,400 kW. The Friday announcement points toward future procurement work, including a possible role in Italy's New Main Battle Tank programme, which is run through the Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles joint venture.

No order came with it. That distinction sits at the heart of how the group's recent news flow should be read: a technical positioning for programmes that have yet to be contracted is not the same as a signed delivery commitment, and Renk gave no indication that Italy has placed one.

A firm order, and a long wait for the cash

Contracted business looks rather different. On 14 October Renk expanded an agreement with KNDS Deutschland covering transmissions, transmission control units and gear selectors for the Leopard 2 and vehicles of the same family. The company put the volume at roughly €130 million, with deliveries starting in 2029 and wrapping up in 2032.

That schedule illustrates why order intake and near-term earnings do not move together. Even binding bookings are worked off over years, so the pace of shipments matters as much to investors as the headline value.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

JPMorgan addressed exactly that point on 21 October. Analyst David Perry cut his price target to €50 from €62 while keeping an Overweight rating, according to dpa-AFX, citing among other factors a slower-than-expected ramp-up in German tank programmes. The call did not challenge the underlying business opportunity; it reset the timeline. A positive recommendation and a more cautious valuation arrived in the same note.

Two clocks running in the naval business

Renk's maritime expansion carries the same split between what is booked and what is merely possible. The previously reported Saab contract with Renk Magnet-Motor covers three Stirling power generation systems for a submarine programme run by a NATO member state — a firm order rather than a product launch.

The completed acquisition of David Brown Defence from Stellex Capital Management broadens that naval base further. The business, now trading as RENK UK Huddersfield, is intended to become a centre of competence for submarine propulsion systems. It brings 530 employees and an order backlog plus pipeline together worth more than £700 million across 2026–2030 — a combined figure that explicitly includes the pipeline and should not be read as fully firm bookings. Purchase price and contract terms were not disclosed.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Alongside the purchase, Renk agreed roughly two weeks ago to sell its plain bearing operations to Miba AG, a deal still subject to customary regulatory clearance. Together the two moves reshape the group's future business profile.

What emerges is a company with real orders in hand and a widening set of technological options. Keeping the two apart — and not mistaking programme prospects for realised revenue — is the test investors face as the delivery timetable, not the order book, sets the tempo.
