Renk Group Wins Morgan Stanley's Sector Tailwind as EUR 160 Million in Orders Stretch to 2032
Published on 10/20/2026 at 10:40 | Editorial boerse-global.deA bullish industry note from Morgan Stanley lifted Europe's defence complex on Friday and carried Renk Group along with it, ending a stretch of weakness in the Augsburg drivetrain maker's shares. The stock closed the following session at EUR 38.12, up 12% over seven days. Media reports say the Morgan Stanley study points to expectations of further increases in European defence spending and to the seasonal strength defence names have historically shown.
The move was a broad sector reaction rather than a company-specific re-rating. Even so, it was enough to halt the prior slide and draw in follow-on buying.
Two Contracts, Two Timetables
Renk's fundamental base has strengthened at the same time. Roughly a week ago the group and KNDS Deutschland agreed to expand their supply contract for the Leopard 2 main battle tank and its vehicle family by around EUR 130 million. The package covers HSWL-354 transmissions together with control units and gear selectors, with delivery due to begin in 2029 and run through 2032.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
A second award came from Patria: a follow-on order worth EUR 30 million for HSWL 076 transmissions destined for the TRACKX vehicle family, with shipments starting in 2027. Together the two deals cement Renk's place in European defence programmes and keep its plants busy well into the next decade. They also lay bare the sector's structural quirk — orders of this kind contribute little to near-term earnings momentum.
A Share Price Still in the Red
Despite the recent rebound, the picture for the year remains difficult. The stock is down 30% since the start of January, and in today's trading it stands at EUR 37.70, a modest 1.1% decline on the day. Part of the market's caution stems from the recognition that a full order book is no guarantee of smooth production runs or adequate margins.
That is precisely where the financial calendar comes into play. Renk has scheduled its quarterly statement for the first nine months of 2026 for 5 November 2026, accompanied by a conference call. According to media reports, a pre-close call on the nine-month figures is also planned beforehand.
At that briefing, investors will get their answer on whether day-to-day operations can keep pace with the long-term order intake. They will listen closely for signs of how execution is developing — contracts running to 2032 count for little if the interim milestones stumble in the here and now. How quickly existing backlogs can actually be worked off, and whether delivery capacity and profitability hold steady amid broad demand for defence equipment, will be the questions that matter most.
