Primary Hydrogen's Nova Scotia Land Grab Arrives Amid a Corporate Reset
Published on 08/31/2026 at 19:02 | Editorial boerse-global.deThe staking of a second exploration package in Nova Scotia's Cumberland Basin on Monday marks the latest step in a broader transformation at Primary Hydrogen Corp. — one that reaches well beyond the geological map.
The Vancouver-based explorer secured four exploration licenses covering 68 claims across roughly 1,101 hectares near Wallace Bay in Cumberland County. The move follows the company's Northumberland project, staked on August 17, and brings its total position in the basin to six licenses, 140 claims, and approximately 2,267 hectares. Management emphasized the acreage was acquired at pure staking costs through provider NovaROC, keeping capital outlay minimal.
Investors should note the distinction: no drilling has occurred on the new claims, and no documented hydrogen occurrences exist there. This is land positioning ahead of future exploration — not a discovery. The strategic logic rests on consolidating a basin the company views as a core target for natural hydrogen, expanding its optionality without yet delivering geological proof.
A Leadership Shakeup Precedes the Expansion
The land acquisition follows a significant overhaul at the corporate level. On July 20, David Jackson assumed the roles of President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Benjamin Asuncion, who remains on the board as a director. Just four days later, Christopher Longton, CPG, joined as Vice President of Exploration.
That leadership transition coincided with a period of rapid portfolio growth. Beyond the hydrogen-focused Northumberland and Seagull North projects — which have driven recent share price momentum — the company is advancing Wicheeda North, a rare earths project in British Columbia. On August 10, Primary Hydrogen announced a fully funded and approved work program for 2026 that includes the first drilling in the project's history, with roughly 1,500 meters planned for completion in the autumn.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying PRIMARY HYDROGEN?
Capital Raises and Marketing Deals Fund the Push
The exploration budget is backed by a critical-mineral flow-through financing announced in June and early July. On July 8, the company closed a non-brokered private placement in LIFE format, placing 2,459,570 units at C$0.60 each for gross proceeds of approximately C$1.475 million.
A marketing agreement with Nordcore Media LLC followed on July 22, committing the company to US$300,000 in online marketing services over an expected six-month term. Such arrangements are common among junior explorers, though they signal active investor outreach — a factor worth weighing alongside the recent share price trajectory.
Regulatory Uncertainty Looms Over the Basin
The timing of the staking is notable for another reason. Nova Scotia's "Powering the Economy Act," passed in April 2026, creates a new "Subsurface Energy Resource Extraction Act" governing underground resource extraction, including natural hydrogen exploration. That framework has not yet come into force.
Primary Hydrogen is therefore building its land position before the final regulatory rules are settled — an approach that carries both upside potential and regulatory risk. The pace at which staked claims convert into actual exploration programs may hinge on how quickly that framework takes shape.
Market Reaction Muted Despite Recent Rally
The share price response to Monday's announcement was restrained: a 6.2 percent gain to EUR 1.54, just below the 52-week high of EUR 1.59 reached recently. Given the stock's substantial run-up in prior weeks, the modest reaction suggests the market views Wallace as a logical extension of a known strategy rather than a standalone catalyst.
That rally has been considerable. On the Friday before the staking news, shares closed at EUR 1.45, up 9.8 percent on the day, with a 30-day gain of 127 percent. The Relative Strength Index stood at 87.5 — firmly in overbought territory, reflecting the confluence of leadership changes, new projects, and fresh capital.
For investors, the near-term catalyst calendar points to the autumn, when drilling results from Wicheeda North are expected. The question of whether the company's expanding land base in Cumberland Basin translates into actual hydrogen findings remains open — and the answer will determine whether the recent share price momentum rests on substance or speculation.
