Primary Hydrogen's Neighbouring Discovery Fuels a Rally That Has Left Fundamentals Trailing

The junior explorer's share price has been on a tear that would make even the most seasoned momentum traders pause for breath. A 112 percent surge over the past month — including a 28 percent gain in just seven sessions — has pushed Primary Hydrogen to within 0.7 percent of its 52-week high, with the stock closing Friday at EUR 1.45.

The latest catalyst came from an unexpected direction. Quebec Innovative Materials Corp reported a hydrogen concentration of 27.8 percent at 374 metres depth at its Bennett Hill project in the Cumberland Basin — a record for the region. Because Primary Hydrogen holds significant claim acreage in the same geological formation, the entire sector moved higher on Friday, with Primary Hydrogen's shares advancing 9.8 percent on the day.

A Land Grab Across Three Provinces

The Bennett Hill result matters because it validates the quality of the Cumberland Basin formation where Primary Hydrogen itself holds ground. Investors frequently read such neighbouring discoveries as a proxy for a company's own exploration potential, even though Primary Hydrogen has yet to release its own drill results from the area.

The company has not been idle on the acquisition front. Just over a week ago, it secured the Seagull North Project in northwestern Ontario — 313 contiguous claims covering 65 square kilometres, directly adjacent to ground where Rift Minerals and Anteros Metals have already detected hydrogen-bearing gas at depth. That staking followed the August 17 announcement of the Northumberland Natural Hydrogen Project in Nova Scotia's Cumberland Basin, comprising two exploration licences spanning 1,166 hectares that border land held by the Kavenex Energy and Koloma Inc partnership.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying PRIMARY HYDROGEN?

The portfolio also includes the fully financed and permitted Wicheeda North rare earths project in British Columbia, where an initial drilling programme is scheduled for 2026. The combination of parallel projects across multiple Canadian provinces gives the company a diversified exploration book in the emerging field of natural hydrogen.

Financial Adjustments and Rising Costs

On the financial side, Primary Hydrogen has had to correct its previously completed private placement. Subscriptions exceeding CAD 10,000 were unwound and 16,666 units cancelled. The final offering now comprises 2,442,904 units with gross proceeds of CAD 1,465,742.

The company's second quarter, ended May 31, showed a net loss of CAD 214,856, up from CAD 185,432 in the corresponding period last year — an increase that comes as little surprise given the expanded exploration activity.

A Speculative Story Priced for Perfection

The technical picture has become stretched. The relative strength index sits at 87.5, a reading that signals deeply overbought conditions and has deteriorated the risk-reward profile for new entrants. TipRanks assigns the stock a neutral AI rating, noting weak fundamentals offset by a debt-free balance sheet, with technical indicators showing upward momentum but also overheated signals.

Analysts are unambiguous about the speculative nature of the story. The permits, claims and funded drilling programmes are real, but the valuation thesis rests on results that have yet to materialise. Dilution, commodity price volatility and the risk of disappointing drill outcomes remain the central hazards.

The market's enthusiasm has been fed by a steady drip of news flow, but the fundamental question remains whether Primary Hydrogen's own drill results at the newly secured locations can confirm the expectations raised by its neighbours' successes. With the autumn analysis results from the Wicheeda North drilling expected soon, the coming weeks will test whether the share price can justify the promise embedded in the ground.
