Plug Power Slips to Within 2.5% of Its 52-Week Low as Two Brokerages Cut Targets and an Insider Files to Sell
Published on 10/17/2026 at 21:20 | Editorial boerse-global.dePlug Power shares finished Friday at EUR 1.24, down 6.3%, leaving the hydrogen specialist just 2.5% above its 52-week trough. The retreat came against a 2.14% drop in the Nasdaq Composite, and media reports pointed to a round of analyst target cuts earlier in the week as an added drag on sentiment.
The stock's slide caps a week in which Wall Street took a sharper pencil to the hydrogen story. On Wednesday, Morgan Stanley trimmed its price target to $1.20 from $1.65 while keeping an Underweight rating, citing lowered long-term growth expectations that reflect the slow build-out of hydrogen technology. Susquehanna made its own cut the same day, taking its target to $1.75 from $2.50 and maintaining a Neutral stance.
Behind those revisions lies a broader reassessment of the energy transition trade. What once ran on bold promises and plentiful risk capital is now being measured against tangible progress, and the pace of industrial rollout has lagged early hopes. Building workable hydrogen infrastructure is proving slower and more capital-hungry than originally forecast — a structural delay that weighs hardest on business models with heavy capital needs.

Insider Filing Adds to the Week's News Flow
Separately, Benjamin Haycraft filed a Rule 144 notice on Thursday covering a planned sale of 9,375 common shares. The transaction stems from a trading plan adopted under Rule 10b5-1 on June 11, 2026.
Operationally, Plug Power released preliminary, unaudited third-quarter 2026 figures on Thursday. Revenue rose more than 10% year over year, keeping the company on track for full-year 2026 revenue growth of roughly 15% to 16%. Net cash burn for the quarter came to about $28 million, and liquid funds and cash equivalents — excluding restricted cash — stood at approximately $134 million at period-end. Notably, the company raised no capital during the quarter through its existing ATM program or any other equity or debt measures.
Two Dates Circle the Calendar
Management's numbers offer a measure of reassurance on cost discipline, but investors are looking past liquidity management alone. The full third-quarter 2026 results and a conference call are scheduled for November 9, 2026, with the Plug Symposium 2026 to follow on November 19, 2026. For shareholders, those two dates amount to a test of whether the hydrogen vision can hold up economically in a demanding rate and market environment — and whether slower sector momentum leaves the growth targets intact.
