Plug Power spent the third quarter proving it can spend less, not that it can grow faster. The hydrogen specialist's stock closed Monday at €1.23, parked just above its 52-week low of €1.21 and roughly 30% beneath its 50-day average of €1.74 — a valuation that says investors are still waiting for the balance sheet to do the talking.

The company's preliminary, unaudited figures for the quarter sketch a modest recovery rather than a breakout. Revenue rose more than 10% year over year, and management reaffirmed its full-year target of roughly 15% to 16% sales growth. Gross margin is also expected to improve from a year earlier.

A Quarter Without Fresh Capital

What stands out most is the financing line. Plug Power sold nothing through its at-the-market program in the third quarter and raised no fresh equity or debt of any kind. Net cash burn came in at about $28 million, leaving roughly $134 million in unrestricted cash at period end.

That combination — no dilution, a narrower outflow, and a firmer top line — is the core of management's case that operations can eventually fund themselves. The company is reworking its manufacturing processes and pushing for greater financial independence, with the stated aim of running the business without repeatedly diluting existing shareholders.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Plug Power?

To drive down production costs and speed up scaling, Plug Power brought in Dr. Lee Sweetland as Global Engineering Industrialization Lead. The former Chief Operating Officer of Ballard Power Systems will oversee industrialization of the company's PEM stack technology, focusing on manufacturing efficiency and reliability.

The Street Still Isn't Buying It

Sell-side caution remains firmly in place. Morgan Stanley cut its price target to $1.20 and kept an Underweight rating, citing lower long-term expectations for the pace of global hydrogen adoption. Susquehanna trimmed its target from $2.50 to $1.75 while holding at Neutral.

The backdrop is a changed market for alternative energy more broadly. Higher interest rates and hesitant demand for hydrogen solutions have forced a sector-wide repricing, leaving Plug Power to demonstrate durable cost discipline and technical competitiveness rather than promise alone.

Two dates now carry the weight of that proof. Full quarterly results are due on November 9, 2026, with the company's annual symposium following on November 19, 2026 — where the industrial roadmap is likely to draw close scrutiny.
