Partners Group is carving its EUR 6.6 billion Global Value SICAV into an umbrella structure with two sub-portfolios, a move announced on 2 October that will let the Swiss asset manager keep compounding long-term capital while giving investors a route to cash out accumulated gains of as much as 4.5x invested capital.

The restructuring is designed to widen flexibility for clients whose redemption preferences have shifted. Managers across private markets are hunting for ways to build liquidity options without being forced to sell underlying portfolio companies at a discount. A date for the shareholder vote on the umbrella conversion has yet to be set.

Separately, media reports indicated the evergreen fund has transferred stakes in four buyout funds into a new Luxembourg vehicle. The purpose of that step has not been officially confirmed.

London-listed vehicle heads for wind-down

At Partners Group Private Equity Limited, the London-quoted fund, shareholders backed a portfolio sale and orderly liquidation with 99.89 percent of votes cast on 8 October. Reuters reported that a clear majority had earlier come out in favour of the liquidity option, making a turnaround plan moot. A first distribution to investors is scheduled for March 2027. The measure affects only the managed fund, not the listed Partners Group Holding itself.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

A separate shareholder ballot at the same vehicle saw 74.12 percent of the share capital vote to exit the fund by converting their holdings into realisation shares, according to Keystone-SDA.

Credit platform widened

Roughly two weeks ago the group launched a global multi-sector private credit income strategy aimed at institutional clients and private wealth investors. Structured as an open-ended evergreen vehicle, it targets high single-digit to low double-digit returns, generated mainly from running income. The approach spreads exposure across senior direct lending, credit secondaries, fund financing, royalties, opportunistic credit and liquid credit.

Buyout desk trimmed

Alongside the product changes, Partners Group has adjusted internal resources. Bloomberg reported that dozens of positions in the private equity division, which employs more than 200 people, were cut or reassigned worldwide. Some staff left the firm, while others moved into areas such as infrastructure and royalties. Bloomberg cited the lagging performance of older portfolios versus competitors and rising redemption requests at evergreen funds as the backdrop.

Management puts money behind the stock

Market conditions for private holdings remain tough after the interest rate rises of recent years. Lower deal volumes and longer holding periods are weighing on the whole industry, and the equity has felt the drag. The stock closed at EUR 657.80 on Monday, 5.6 percent above its 52-week low, and is down 38 percent since the start of the year. At another point in trading the shares changed hands at EUR 651.40, a 39 percent decline year-to-date.

Management is pushing back against that trend with its own capital. Executives acquired shares through derivative instruments about two weeks ago worth roughly CHF 21 million. Combined with earlier transactions, purchases by the board and management since the start of September add up to almost CHF 39 million — a signal that leadership rates the firm's long-term earnings power above the current market price.

Investors will get their next hard read on operating momentum on 13 January 2027, when Partners Group publishes assets under management as of 31 December 2026.
