Partners Group is reworking the plumbing of its fund range on two fronts at once, splitting its largest evergreen vehicle and winding down a listed London affiliate, while simultaneously rolling out a new private credit strategy aimed at keeping yield-hungry clients on board.

The Swiss asset manager confirmed on Friday the launch of a global multi-sector private credit income strategy, delivered through an open-ended evergreen structure and marketed to both institutional investors and wealthy private clients. The product targets returns in the "high single to low double-digit" range, generated predominantly from recurring interest and loan income. It is designed to lend to companies across a spread of sectors, giving private investors a route into off-exchange financing.

Flagship fund to be divided in two

The credit push lands alongside a broader reshaping of the group's existing lineup. Roughly a week ago, Partners Group proposed converting its Global Value SICAV — carrying a net asset value of EUR 6.6 billion — into an umbrella fund split into two sub-portfolios, subject to shareholder approval. One sleeve would pursue long-term capital appreciation; the other would be dedicated to distributions from portfolio realizations. Management noted the strategy has returned 4.5 times invested capital since inception, and framed the split as a way to give investors a cleaner line between reinvested growth and realized cash returns.

The EDHEC Infrastructure & Private Assets Research Institute read the plan as a direct response to the liquidity and redemption strain building in evergreen structures. Bloomberg, for its part, linked the Global Value SICAV revamp to mounting withdrawal requests from investors seeking to pull capital out of private market holdings.

London trust opts for orderly wind-down

That same pressure was on full display at Partners Group Private Equity Limited, the London-listed investment company run by the group. Shareholders there first signaled their intentions by tendering 48,829,366 ordinary shares — 74.12% of shares in issue excluding treasury stock — for conversion into realization shares. With that threshold crossed, the original reorganization proposal was withdrawn and only the orderly winding-up was put to a vote. It passed with 99.9% support, clearing the way for the entire portfolio to be sold off and the company liquidated. Distributions to shareholders are expected to begin around March 31, 2027, and will then be paid semi-annually.

According to media reports, the move touches only the UK subsidiary and has no direct bearing on the operating Partners Group Holding AG.

Analysts trim targets as the stock slides

Sentiment around the stock remains subdued even as the company reshapes its offerings. Jefferies cut its price target on Partners Group to CHF 605 from CHF 710 about two weeks ago, keeping a "Hold" rating on the shares. The stock changed hands at EUR 637.60 in the primary report, while the secondary source recorded a gain of 2.1% to EUR 641.80 on Friday. Either way, the year-to-date picture is stark: the shares are down 40%, reflecting persistent caution toward alternative asset managers in the current interest rate environment.

How the group manages future capital flows will rest heavily on the flexibility it is now building into its fund architecture — a bet that separating growth from distributions, and pairing that with a steady income engine in private credit, can hold investor attention through a difficult cycle.
