Partners Group's board members and senior managers bought roughly CHF 21 million of the company's own stock between October 6 and October 8, a wager placed as the Swiss asset manager's share price wallows near its lowest levels of the year. Combined with earlier purchases, insider buying since the start of September has reached almost CHF 39 million.

The stock closed Friday at EUR 655.20, down 38% since January. That leaves it just 5.2% above its 52-week low of EUR 623.00 and 45% below its 52-week high.

The slide reflects a cluster of pressures rather than a single trigger. Redemption requests at the firm's evergreen funds have weighed on sentiment, as has an attack by short sellers. A recently announced change at the top of the company has done little to steady the shares. And the group is reorganizing internally: Bloomberg reported that Partners Group has cut or shifted dozens of positions in its global private equity arm, moving some into infrastructure and royalties. The company says team sizes remain within their long-term average and points to last year's expansion of operational leadership capacity.

A New Credit Engine and a Split Fund

Management is responding on the product side. On October 9 the firm launched a global multi-sector private credit income strategy as an open-ended evergreen vehicle, open to both institutional and private investors. It targets total returns in the high single digits to low double digits, generated mainly from running interest income — a pitch aimed at investors still hungry for predictable cash flows away from traditional bond markets.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

A week earlier, on October 2, Partners Group said it would divide its Global Value SICAV into two sub-portfolios under a single umbrella fund. The vehicle last reported a net asset value of EUR 6.6 billion. The restructuring is a response to shifting liquidity and subscription needs among investors.

London-Listed Trust Votes to Wind Down

Elsewhere in the group's orbit, shareholders of the London-listed Partners Group Private Equity Limited backed an orderly realization of the entire investment portfolio with 99.89% of votes cast. The resolution concerns that investment company, not the Partners Group holding itself. Proceeds are to be distributed to investors semi-annually starting March 31, 2027.

Jefferies Cuts Target, Sees No Recovery Before 2028

Sell-side opinion remains cautious on the pace of any rebound. On September 29, Jefferies lowered its price target on Partners Group to CHF 605 from CHF 710 while keeping a "Hold" rating. The analysts also trimmed their earnings-per-share estimates for 2026 and 2027 by 10% and 11% respectively, citing a delayed recovery in assets under management caused by the persistent troubles in the evergreen fund range. A durable upturn is unlikely before 2028, in their view.

Whether the recent seven-figure insider purchases can shift the mood for good is an open question. What is clear is that the firm's push into credit and evergreen products will play a large part in determining whether it can return to its earlier growth rates.
