Partners Group is pressing ahead with a dual push into private credit and structural fund reform, unveiling a new global multi-sector income strategy on Friday even as it moves to reshape one of its largest existing vehicles.

The Swiss asset manager's freshly launched private credit concept will be delivered through an open-ended evergreen structure and targets returns in the "high single to low double-digit" range, with the bulk of that income expected to come from recurring earnings rather than capital gains. The strategy is designed to extend loans to companies across a range of sectors, opening the door for wealthy individuals to access off-exchange financing alongside institutional clients.

Leverage Questions Cloud the Rollout

Market watchers spent Friday picking apart the mechanics of the new vehicle, with attention centering on its use of secondary-market loans and net asset value-based financing, as well as the leverage applied at the fund level. The company's announcement left several points unresolved — among them what share of the portfolio will sit in those segments and whether the vehicle may finance its own funds.

According to media reports, the evergreen structure is aimed at affluent private clients and institutional investors across Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region. For asset managers, the challenge increasingly lies in striking a balance between offering attractive ongoing distributions and keeping valuation risk in check, as investors grow more sensitive to liquidity concerns.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

Redemption Wave Hits Evergreen Funds

That sensitivity is already visible in the firm's own lineup. Reuters reported elevated redemption requests at several of Partners Group's private market funds, a trend that also played out at the externally listed Partners Group Private Equity Limited. There, shareholders opted predominantly for the liquidity option, prompting them to approve an orderly realization of the entire portfolio. Available proceeds are set to be distributed to investors semi-annually starting March 31, 2027.

The closed vehicle's portfolio had no free cash flow available for share buybacks as of the end of September. Even so, an additional discretionary buyback allocation of EUR 10 million was approved, earmarked for use through January 31, 2027.

Shareholder backing for the wind-down was overwhelming: 99.89 percent voted in favor just over a week ago. Before that vote, holders had registered 48,829,366 ordinary shares — equal to 74.12 percent of issued shares excluding treasury stock — for conversion into realization shares. That development led the company to withdraw its original reorganization proposal and put only the orderly liquidation to a vote.

Global Value SICAV Set for Split

Alongside the credit launch, Partners Group confirmed plans announced roughly a week ago to convert its Global Value SICAV, which carries a net asset value of EUR 6.6 billion, into an umbrella fund. The new setup will house two distinct sub-portfolios: one oriented toward long-term capital appreciation and another focused on regular income distributions. Management says the structure will give investors greater flexibility.

Bloomberg linked the SICAV overhaul to pressure from investors pulling liquidity out of private market holdings, reporting heightened redemption requests at evergreen funds. The broader reshuffling reflects shifting conditions across the sector.

Shares Gain, but Year-to-Date Loss Persists

Partners Group stock rose on the day, climbing 1.8 percent to EUR 640.20, with another reading putting the advance at 2.1 percent to EUR 641.80. The gains do little to offset a bruising year: the shares remain down 40 percent since the start of 2026. Investors continue to weigh the firm's new growth initiatives in credit against the headwinds posed by portfolio wind-downs and evolving client demands.
