Palantir's Two-Sided Week: Analyst Upgrades, a Nebius Alliance, and Cathie Wood Heading for the Exit

UBS and DA Davidson lift Palantir targets to $250 on sovereign-AI deals, while Cathie Wood's ARK sells shares twice in eight days.

Palantir finds itself caught between two narratives this week, and the gap between them is widening. On one side sits a company stacking up sovereign-AI partnerships and collecting fresh price-target hikes from Wall Street. On the other, a high-profile believer is quietly trimming her stake — twice in eight days.

The bull case keeps compounding

The week's most recent endorsement came Tuesday, when UBS analyst Karl Keirstead lifted his target from 220 to 250 dollars and called Palantir the "best AI enabler" following the company's AIPCon house event. It marked the Swiss bank's third upward revision this year, after moves in June and August. DA Davidson's Gil Luria had already made the same 250-dollar call on September 11, pointing squarely at rising client demand for AI sovereignty. UBS's math rests on 51 times estimated 2027 free cash flow — a multiple Keirstead frames as modest next to software peers like Snowflake or CrowdStrike.

The operational backdrop gives those targets something to stand on. Second-quarter revenue climbed 93 percent year over year to 1.94 billion dollars, with the US commercial segment surging 149 percent to 764 million. Deal breadth tells a similar story: 220 contracts above one million dollars, 73 of them north of ten million, and a US commercial pipeline that expanded 124 percent to 6.24 billion. Net dollar retention held at 157 percent, and operating margin has already cleared the 60 percent mark. Of 33 analysts tracked, 23 sit on Buy or Strong Buy.

Partnerships as the growth engine

What's driving the optimism is a string of alliances that push Palantir well beyond its government roots. On September 8, the company named Nebius its preferred partner for sovereign AI infrastructure, folding Nebius's compute capacity and inference technology into the Palantir perimeter for commercial clients. Days earlier, on September 3, it deepened ties with PwC, embedding Foundry and AIP further into ERP modernization and M&A transformation work. The same week brought sovereign-AI announcements alongside Nvidia, Cisco and Fujitsu — the last of which will roll out Foundry and AIP across more than 3,000 suppliers. Nvidia collaboration extends to sovereign supply-chain intelligence, while Palantir is also building its own alternatives through Nemotron models.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

There's a defensive thread running through this, too. Palantir, together with Nvidia and Booz Allen, has restricted access to Anthropic's Claude models, demanding an irrevocable zero-data-retention guarantee before any deeper integration with Palantir platforms. Anthropic currently retains prompts and outputs for up to 30 days, and that standoff remains unresolved — a potential source of friction in AI cooperation projects even as Palantir hedges with in-house options.

The valuation question that won't settle

Independent cash-flow models paint a less flattering picture. Depending on the assumptions used, fair value for Palantir ranges from 10 percent undervalued to 23 percent overvalued. The stock trades at roughly 138 times earnings, and that 51-times-2027-free-cash-flow multiple applies to a fiscal year that hasn't even started. Bear-case scenarios pencil in as much as 23 percent downside if growth decelerates or margin expansion stalls. Management has guided 2026 revenue to between 8.15 and 8.16 billion dollars — the next quarterly report will show whether that bar holds.

The market's own verdict has been lukewarm. Palantir is down about five percent year to date and sits roughly 17 percent below its 52-week high of 179.98 euros. A 30-day annualized volatility reading of 54 percent underscores just how restless the trading has been.

Cathie Wood's counter-signal

Into this picture steps Cathie Wood, one of Palantir's most visible public champions, who has now cut her position through ARK Invest on two occasions. On September 1 she sold about 139,000 shares worth roughly 26 million dollars; on September 8, another 38,400 shares for approximately 6.5 million. Against a market capitalization north of 348 billion euros, neither tranche is dramatic on its own. But the timing — landing alongside bullish analyst notes — invites the obvious question: is this simple profit-taking, or does someone with deep familiarity with the name see something the sell-side doesn't?

The more measured read treats it as tactical portfolio management. ARK funds rebalance regularly, particularly after sharp run-ups, and with the stock at 147.70 euros and about 18 percent off its early-November peak near 180 euros, the recent consolidation offers a plausible trigger for repositioning without implying any fundamental reversal.

Where the story goes next

Two readings of the same company can coexist without either being wrong. Palantir is executing, broadening its commercial base and winning back analyst confidence. At the same time, a seasoned growth investor is monetizing part of her bet precisely as that confidence builds. What that tells you is that Palantir's valuation is no longer purely a question of growth rates — it's a question of how much faith the market will extend to the durability of that growth. For now, the operational momentum and the fresh partnerships carry more weight than ARK's sales, though those sales are worth keeping on the radar.
