There are quarterly reports that make investors do a double-take, and Palantir's second-quarter numbers for 2026 certainly qualify. Revenue surged 93 percent to $1.94 billion, the net margin hit 55 percent, and the Rule of 40 score landed at a staggering 155. By any operational measure, the data analytics firm is firing on all cylinders.

Yet the stock has spent weeks trading in a range that raises an uncomfortable question: can even extraordinary business performance eventually bump against a valuation ceiling? That tension — between what the company is achieving and what the market is willing to pay for it — has become the defining narrative of Palantir's summer.

The Growth Machine Keeps Accelerating

The underlying figures paint a picture of a business that shows no signs of slowing. U.S. commercial revenue expanded 149 percent to $764 million, while the U.S. government segment grew 90 percent to $809 million. Total contract value climbed 49 percent to $3.37 billion, and net dollar retention — a key measure of customer loyalty — stands at 157 percent.

For the full year, management has guided to revenue between $8.15 billion and $8.158 billion, representing roughly 80 percent growth, alongside adjusted free cash flow of $4.5 billion to $4.7 billion.

The market has taken notice. The shares currently trade at €149.00, comfortably above both the 50-day moving average of €122.32 and the 200-day average of €129.10. That gap underscores just how much momentum has built up in recent weeks — though it also hints at how much of that good news may already be priced in.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

Wall Street's Valuation Schism

The analyst community remains deeply divided over what Palantir is actually worth. UBS lifted its price target to $220, citing the accelerated revenue growth, while Phillip Securities followed with a target of $215, pointing to the continued strength of the company's Artificial Intelligence Platform. Needham & Company and 24/7 Wall St have also set targets in the $215 range, with the latter highlighting the 149 percent U.S. commercial growth as justification for a higher multiple.

Not everyone is convinced. Jefferies raised its target from $70 to $80 but maintained an "Underperform" rating, explicitly citing valuation concerns despite the faster growth. Morningstar, meanwhile, sees fair value at $153, suggesting the stock is roughly appropriately priced even as the fundamental thesis strengthens.

That spread — from $80 to $220 — captures the essence of the debate. With a price-to-sales ratio in the neighborhood of 70 to 73 and a price-to-earnings multiple north of 150, even growth-hungry investors have reason to pause. The stock's annualized volatility of nearly 100 percent reflects this tension: operational results leave little to question, but the valuation amplifies every piece of news in both directions.

Insider Selling vs. Institutional Buying

Adding to the mixed signals, several insiders have sold shares in recent weeks. CEO Alex Karp disposed of 492,348 shares on August 20 at an average price of $174.79, generating roughly $86 million. Chief Accounting Officer Jeffrey Buckley and Director Alexander D. Moore have also trimmed positions.

These transactions, however, are largely conducted through Rule 10b5-1 plans — pre-arranged trading programs typically used to cover tax liabilities on vested stock — and are not necessarily a reflection of management's confidence in the business.

The institutional picture tells a different story. Deutsche Bank increased its stake by 1.1 percent to more than ten million shares, ARK Investment Management added 3.29 percent, and Heartland Bank & Trust Co established a new position. There are exceptions — Rothschild Capital Partners liquidated its small holding in the second quarter, and funds including Two Sigma, AQR, Citadel, and Point72 reduced their exposure — but the overall direction skews toward accumulation.

Palantir at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Some of that capital appears to be rotating within the AI theme rather than abandoning it. Alphabet, whose cloud division grew 82 percent to $24.8 billion in the second quarter, has been a beneficiary. This looks less like a retreat from artificial intelligence and more like capital seeking new channels as existing ones become crowded — a familiar pattern in structural booms.

A Political Wildcard

Beyond the valuation debate lies a different kind of risk. In the United Kingdom, the government has six months to decide the fate of a contract with the National Health Service valued at more than $400 million, following the termination of a collaboration by an English county. Such episodes serve as reminders that Palantir's business model is deeply intertwined with public institutions, where political headwinds can create risks that no short-term price movement can capture.

What's Next

All eyes now turn to September 9, when Palantir is scheduled to appear at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference. With the stock trading at €151.48 — about 24 percent above its 50-day average of €122.37 but still 16 percent below its 52-week high of $179.98 reached on November 3 — investors will be listening for signals about whether this accelerated growth trajectory can hold. Given the chasm between the bulls and the bears on valuation, the company's own words may carry more weight than usual.
