Rising crude prices and mounting scepticism about the returns on artificial intelligence spending are combining to keep the Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF (USD Accumulation) under pressure, with the fund changing hands at €169.54 on Tuesday, down 0.4%, after closing at €170.20 a day earlier.

Brent crude pushed past the $110-a-barrel mark as investors braced for supply disruptions tied to geopolitical risk in the Middle East. That backdrop dragged Asian equities broadly lower and left European bourses nursing a second straight session of losses, according to Reuters.

A Rally Without Breadth

Monday had offered a brief reprieve. The ETF edged up 0.07% as previously battered AI names on Wall Street found buyers. AP, however, characterised the bounce as fragile: most US stocks outside the technology and AI complex fell, European indices shed more than 1%, and the advance rested on a handful of heavyweights rather than any genuine return of risk appetite.

France's political and fiscal uncertainty added to the drag on European markets, which lost over 1%. Because the fund holds both US and European equities, these opposing forces act on its value simultaneously, muting overall swings.

The trouble traces back further. A surprisingly hot US inflation reading roughly a week ago knocked technology shares and set off a rotation. T. Rowe Price attributed the shift away from mega-cap tech toward value and defensive names to worries about how AI infrastructure spending would be financed and whether it would pay off, alongside scepticism toward richly valued growth stocks. Middle East tensions propped up oil and energy names, while Japanese, Chinese and South Korean technology and semiconductor stocks lagged. Friday's steep semiconductor losses had already handed the S&P 500 its largest weekly decline since June, Reuters reported.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF USD Accumulation?

Not every signal pointed the same way. Chinese economic growth came in stronger than expected for the third quarter, lifting global growth sentiment, while falling oil prices supported bonds and US equity futures — offsets that slightly improve the risk-reward picture for a broadly diversified global fund.

Technical Picture Still Constructive

Despite the recent softness, the medium-term trend remains firm. The ETF is up 17% year to date and 19% over twelve months. It sits 2.6% below its 52-week high of €174.00, touched on 7 October, and 22% above its 52-week low from 21 November 2025.

The price also holds above its 50-day average of €168.81, a sign the short-term uptrend is intact, and trades 6.8% above the long-term 200-day line at €158.80 — evidence the broader advance has yet to break. An RSI of 49.2 puts the fund in neutral territory, neither overbought nor oversold.

Demand for the product itself shows little sign of wavering. LSEG Lipper estimated net inflows of €2.7 billion in September, making the Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF the best-selling ETF in Europe for the month — a vote of confidence in the long-term case for a broad global equity portfolio.

Earnings Season as the Next Test

Upcoming results from large AI-focused companies are the immediate proving ground for the sector's investment thesis, Reuters noted. With US technology stocks heavily weighted in the fund, those reports are likely to set the direction of its price in the days ahead.

Investors will be watching above all whether the hefty outlays on AI infrastructure are translating into demonstrable earnings — or whether financing costs are starting to weigh on the growth story. Until those figures land, oil's march higher and questions over AI valuations look set to steer the fund's path.
