OHB SE has been handed the lead role on one of Europe's most closely watched lunar projects, and investors responded by pushing the Bremen-based space and technology group back above a key technical marker. The ESA named subsidiary OHB System AG prime contractor for feasibility and preliminary design studies on OASIS, a planned lunar infrastructure station — a mandate that media reports identified as the immediate trigger for the stock's sharp move at the start of the week.

The shares climbed 7.0% to EUR 205.50, building on Friday's close of EUR 192.00 and carrying the stock past its 50-day moving average of EUR 191.82. OHB did not disclose a financial framework or contract value for this phase of the OASIS work.

Power Through the Lunar Night

Under the concept, the station would keep experiments supplied with energy even during the lunar night, which lasts almost 15 Earth days. The design calls for a continuous 75 watts during the lunar day and 15 watts at night. Delivery to the surface would rely on the Argonaut lander launched aboard an Ariane 6 rocket, with data relayed through the Moonlight communications network. As prime contractor, OHB carries responsibility for the entire concept.

Italy's Asteroid Interceptor Begins Testing

On a parallel track, Italian subsidiary OHB Italia reached a milestone in the RAMSES planetary-defence mission, prepared jointly by ESA and Japan's JAXA. Engineers switched on the integrated onboard computer together with its connected subsystems for the first time, formally opening the phase of comprehensive functional testing. The probe is destined for asteroid Apophis, which it will study during the body's close flyby on 13 April 2029. Apophis will pass Earth at less than one-tenth of the Moon's distance; an impact risk for the coming centuries has been ruled out.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

Considerable work remains before the planned launch in spring 2028 on a Japanese H3 carrier rocket. The propulsion system and the core module are being built separately and are to be joined at ESA's ESTEC facility in spring 2027, followed by two to three weeks of thermal vacuum testing.

A Widening Institutional Pipeline

The OASIS award slots into a run of recent contract wins. On 15 October, OHB launched the ESA study EO4TIPP alongside the Alfred Wegener Institute and the University of Exeter — a two-year project examining how Earth-observation systems can detect and monitor critical tipping points in the Earth system at an early stage.

Analysts are also lending support. NuWays AG reaffirmed its buy rating on 16 October and kept its EUR 340 price target, citing a brightening order outlook in which major programmes such as the European satellite constellation IRIS², the Sentinel Earth-observation programme and the SATCOMBw 4 military communications system play a decisive part.

Defence Imagery and a Broader Footprint

Beyond lunar and scientific ventures, OHB is widening its position in militarily usable situational imagery. The group is developing and marketing improved situational-awareness solutions with partners: Octave contributes the sensor-processing platform, Safran.AI supplies classification algorithms, and OHB and GEOSYSTEMS handle system integration and advanced data analysis.

Together, the operational advances reinforce OHB's standing as one of Europe's leading space suppliers. Market participants are looking to further awards under European infrastructure programmes for additional growth momentum, though project cost overruns and potential budget cuts in the space sector remain on investors' risk radar.

November's Numbers Loom

With the latest surge, the stock extends a recovery of recent days. Attention now shifts to operating performance: on 12 November, OHB publishes its nine-month results, which should shed further light on the actual course of business and on how the company is working through its existing order backlog.
