OHB Stock Jumps 11% as NuWays Reiterates Buy, Berenberg Stays Bullish
Published on 10/16/2026 at 14:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deShares of Bremen-based space and technology group OHB SE surged 11% on Friday to EUR 190.80, riding a broad recovery across the European defense sector. Market participants attributed the rally to growing expectations that rising European military budgets will soon translate into concrete new orders — a tailwind that could particularly benefit specialist technology and space companies active in satellite-based reconnaissance and communications.
The advance extends a strong run for the stock, which has gained 54% since the start of the year, underscoring renewed investor confidence in the company's strategic positioning.
Analyst Support Builds Behind the Stock
The sector-wide optimism found fundamental backing from equity analysts. NuWays reaffirmed its buy rating on OHB with a price target of EUR 340, pointing to anticipated new business from the Bundeswehr's SATCOMBw 4 defense program. The research house also highlighted the company's existing project pipeline, including the nearly EUR 1 billion contract for Europe's IRIS² satellite network and steady progress on the Sentinel-3 Earth observation mission. For the third quarter of 2026, NuWays projects total output of EUR 347 million and EBITDA of EUR 39 million.
Other market watchers share that confidence. On Monday, Berenberg analyst Chris Armstrong initiated coverage with a "Buy" rating and a EUR 358 price target, naming OHB one of six particularly promising European stocks and citing rising space and defense spending across Germany and Europe.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?
A Strategic Position in Europe's Space Ambitions
The bullish case rests on more than daily market sentiment. Debates over networks such as Starlink and Starshield have stirred fresh imagination around European satellite constellations, with media reports identifying OHB as a potential beneficiary. Europe is pushing to build independent capabilities in orbit and reduce reliance on external providers, and OHB is firmly embedded as an industrial partner to institutional customers, with close ties to the European Space Agency.
That relationship extends into scientific programs as well. The company launched the two-year ESA study EO4TIPP together with the Alfred Wegener Institute and the University of Exeter, examining how existing and future Earth observation systems can be used to identify critical tipping points in the global climate system early on. Financial details of the study contract were not disclosed.
Ownership Structure and Risks
The shareholder base remains stable. The Fuchs family continues to control a majority of the company, while financial investor KKR — on board since 2023 through Orchid Lux HoldCo S.à r.l. as a minority shareholder — reduced its stake to roughly 20% as part of a capital increase in June 2026.
Not everything is smooth sailing. Large public-sector projects require long lead times, and political decision-making can weigh on schedules. The wide gap between the current share price and analyst targets reflects the execution risk inherent in complex space projects.
What's Next for Investors
Attention now turns to the company's upcoming financial disclosures. OHB will publish its interim report for the first nine months of the fiscal year on November 20, 2026, giving investors a clearer picture of how the business is performing. A quarterly financial report for the third quarter is also scheduled for November 12.
For those betting on Europe's strategic emancipation in space, OHB remains a specialist that is hard to overlook.
