OHB Shares Climb 5.7% as European Space Budget Hopes Meet Italian Satellite Milestone

Shares in Bremen-based space and technology group OHB SE advanced sharply on Wednesday, rising 5.7% to EUR 166.20, as investors positioned themselves for what many expect to be a sustained increase in European defense and space spending. No company-specific announcement drove the session's gains, leaving the move rooted in broader sector sentiment.
That sentiment has been building for some time. Berenberg analyst Chris Armstrong flagged the trend on Monday, reiterating a "Buy" rating on OHB with a price target of EUR 358. In Armstrong's assessment, the company ranks among the six most promising European names in the space and technology segment — a call that, while not timed to Wednesday's rally, provides a fundamental anchor for renewed buying interest.
Italian Constellation Reaches Full Strength
On the operational front, OHB's Italian subsidiary has quietly been delivering on some of the sector's most demanding institutional contracts. The Agenzia Spaziale Italiana confirmed on October 8 that all 24 satellites in the IRIDE Earth-observation program were developed and integrated by OHB Italia, following the launch of eight additional units that completed the Eaglet-II constellation. A final review ahead of full operational deployment is still pending, but the technical achievement represents a significant vote of confidence in the subsidiary's execution capabilities.
The milestone came on the heels of another success earlier in the month. On October 2, the ATHENE-1 technology demonstrator launched successfully aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 into low Earth orbit — a mission developed by OHB subsidiary OHB LuxSpace together with the University of the Bundeswehr Munich.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?
A Valuation Gap That Refuses to Close
Despite these operational wins, the stock's broader trajectory has been far from smooth. Sentiment took a hit roughly a week ago when a leadership change at affiliate Rocket Factory Augsburg unsettled investors. A European Space Agency decision to award preliminary study contracts for a European space station, announced about two weeks prior, offered little relief either.
The numbers tell the story of that disconnect. With the stock up 35% year-to-date, it nonetheless sits 77% below its 52-week high of EUR 688.00. Wednesday's pre-market indication of EUR 158.20 — before the session's advance to EUR 166.20 — underscores how far the shares have traveled from their peak. For bulls, the gap between the battered valuation and an intact project pipeline suggests the market may be overpricing sector risk.
Ownership and the Next Catalyst
The shareholder register remains a steady focal point. Founder family Fuchs continues to hold a majority stake, while financial investor KKR, through Orchid Lux HoldCo, holds a minority position of roughly 20% after trimming its stake via the sale of existing shares during June's capital increase.
Attention now turns to November 12, when OHB is scheduled to report third-quarter 2026 results. Those figures should shed light on how deliveries tied to programs like IRIDE translate into revenue and profitability — and whether management can pair industrial reliability with financial metrics strong enough to close the valuation gap that has persisted all year.
