The disconnect between corporate achievement and market reaction is rarely as stark as it currently is at OHB SE. The Bremen-based space and technology group has just secured a role in the largest contract in its corporate history, posted double-digit profit growth, and wiped debt from its books. Yet its shares have shed more than 16 percent in a month, leaving investors to weigh near-term turbulence against what analysts describe as a generational opportunity.

The arithmetic behind the recent sell-off is straightforward, even if the market's logic is debatable. OHB completed a capital increase in June, issuing new shares at €300 apiece and raising roughly €482 million. The stock now trades about 22 percent below that issuance price, closing Friday at €233.50, down 1.48 percent on the day. One-off costs of €22.4 million tied largely to that capital measure pushed the reported EBIT into negative territory for the second quarter, a technicality that has weighed on sentiment despite the underlying strength of the operating business.

That strength is considerable. For the first half of 2026, total output climbed 11 percent year-on-year to €627.9 million. Adjusted EBITDA rose 31 percent to €60.4 million, while adjusted EBIT jumped 46 percent to €38.9 million. The order book swelled to a record €3.304 billion, with €2.566 billion of that concentrated in the Space Systems segment alone. Revenue growth did moderate — 9 percent in the second quarter against 15 percent in the first — but management has held its full-year guidance at roughly €1.4 billion in total volume with an adjusted EBITDA margin between 10.5 and 11 percent. That implies a meaningful acceleration in the second half, which would need to deliver about 55 percent of annual revenue, a pattern the company already demonstrated in 2025.

The balance sheet story deserves equal billing. Following the capital increase, OHB now sits in a net cash position — more liquidity than liabilities — a transformation that NuWays analysts view as the pivotal development. The research house reaffirmed its buy recommendation on Friday with a price target of €340, implying upside of nearly 46 percent from current levels. In their assessment, the company is now optimally positioned for the wave of European space and defense awards expected to break from 2027 onward.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

That pipeline is where the real narrative lies. The European Commission last Thursday signed the framework agreement for the IRIS² satellite project with the SpaceRISE consortium, in which OHB serves as a central industrial partner. The planned constellation of 348 satellites is designed to form the technological backbone of Europe's independent space communications infrastructure. Beyond that, three figures illustrate the scale of what is coming: the European Space Agency's MC25 program carries a budget of €22 billion, Germany has earmarked roughly €35 billion for military space through 2030, and the EU is planning a €131 billion framework for space and defense between 2028 and 2034.

Closer on the horizon, NuWays expects German defense contracts to begin flowing as soon as 2027, led by the SATCOMBw4 program with a volume of approximately €10 billion. The analysts estimate OHB could secure 30 to 50 percent of that award, with SBMD and SPOCK 2 identified as additional anchor programs in the cycle. The company has also deepened its cooperation with Rheinmetall and Hensoldt to strengthen its positioning for German defense initiatives.

The market's near-term skepticism is understandable from a chartist's perspective. The RSI sits at 38.4, signaling technical exhaustion after the recent correction, and the annualized volatility of nearly 58 percent leaves little room for complacency. The €230 mark represents a key support level, while the 200-day moving average at €247.60 could pave the way toward the €300 capital increase price if breached sustainably.

OHB SE at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Yet context matters. Despite the monthly decline, the stock has nearly doubled since the start of the year. The tension between a long-term growth story and short-term share price volatility is likely to persist until the major contract awards — SATCOMBw4 chief among them — move from expectation to reality. Investors are now looking ahead to further details on the industrial implementation of IRIS² in the coming week, even as the fundamental question remains unchanged: whether the gap between the current share price and the analysts' target closes on the strength of order flow, or whether patience becomes the costliest part of the equation.
