There's a peculiar disconnect playing out at OHB SE right now, one that pits the company's own financial statements against the verdict of the trading floor. The Bremen-based space and defense group is posting record figures, growing its operations at a double-digit clip — and yet its share price has been bleeding for weeks.

The stock changed hands at €230.00 on the day the broader space, semiconductor and AI complex sold off amid rising bond yields and profit-taking, a 4.4% decline that extended a slide stretching back months. From its May peak of €688.00 — a 52-week high — the shares now sit roughly two-thirds lower. Even after that drawdown, the equity remains up 97% year-to-date and 236% over twelve months, a reminder of just how ferocious the preceding rally was.

The question hanging over the stock is whether this is a sector-wide breather following an extraordinary run, or the beginning of something more structural. The answer, as is often the case, probably lies somewhere in between.

The Technical Picture Has Deteriorated

The recent weakness has pushed OHB below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, a technical signal that short-term momentum has flipped. The stock is trading approximately 16% beneath its 50-day average of €285.12. That's a notable shift for a name that had become one of the darlings of the European space and defense trade — a sector that went from niche interest to investor favorite within a few quarters and is now grappling with the expectations it created for itself.

The pattern is familiar to anyone who has watched index additions play out. Just over a week ago, OHB joined the SDAX, displacing steel distributor Klöckner & Co. The index promotion brought a prestige boost — and then the shares lost roughly 11%. It's a well-worn script: index-driven demand creates a brief euphoria, followed by a more sober reassessment.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

Analysts See Value Where the Market Sees Risk

The analyst community, at least, appears to be looking through the volatility. Deutsche Bank initiated coverage on Friday with a Buy rating and a €275 price target. That followed Jefferies' decision to reaffirm its own Buy recommendation and €280 target after reviewing the second-quarter numbers. Both price targets sit comfortably above the most recent closing price of €240.50, and both banks point to the same underlying fundamentals as the basis for their optimism.

Jefferies analyst Chloe Lemarie acknowledged that the half-year results were a short-term drag on sentiment but anticipated an acceleration in revenue during the second half. Her €280 target implies meaningful upside from current levels.

The Fundamentals Tell a Different Story

The operational picture that emerged from the first-half report, published in early August, is one of robust growth. Total output rose 11% to €628 million, while adjusted EBITDA climbed 31% to €60 million, representing a margin of 9.6%. The company confirmed its full-year guidance of approximately €1.4 billion in total output and an adjusted EBITDA margin between 10.5% and 11.0%.

Yet the second quarter also produced a net loss, with earnings per share of minus €0.27. That contrast — operational growth alongside a bottom-line loss — helps explain some of the nervousness that has surrounded the stock since the report landed.

The order book, however, is where the longer-term case rests. At the end of June, it stood at a record €3.304 billion, up from €3.067 billion a year earlier. Management says order intake remains dynamic and expects it to peak in the second half of the year. The pipeline of potential new contracts is estimated at roughly €20 billion — a figure that underscores the structural, rather than cyclical, nature of demand for European space infrastructure. New partnerships and collaborations are also strengthening the company's position in bids for key German defense initiatives, according to the company.

A Fortified Balance Sheet

June brought a significant strengthening of the capital structure. A capital increase raised €484 million through the issuance of just over 1.6 million new shares, providing financial firepower for capacity expansion and potential acquisitions. The move left the shareholder base largely unchanged: the Fuchs family retains over 60%, KKR's Orchid Lux HoldCo holds just under 19.7%, and free float remains at a similar level.

OHB SE at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

For investors, the fresh equity means a stronger balance sheet from which to absorb future large contracts — a meaningful consideration given the scale of opportunities in the pipeline.

Two Time Horizons, One Stock

The immediate pressure on OHB reflects its sensitivity to interest rates as a high-growth name with a volatility reading of 59%. The medium-term story, by contrast, is underpinned by record order intake, confirmed guidance and a reinforced capital base. The November nine-month report should offer a clearer signal on which force ultimately prevails.

For now, the analysts at Deutsche Bank and Jefferies have cast their votes: they see the current weakness as an entry point, not an exit signal. The market, at least for the moment, appears to be withholding judgment.
