OHB's Earthbound Conundrum: Record Orders and a Space Station Win Can't Halt the Slide

There is a peculiar disconnect playing out at OHB SE right now. The Bremen-based space company has checked nearly every box an investor could ask for in recent weeks — a record order book, double-digit revenue growth, a fresh analyst endorsement, and now a live experiment aboard the International Space Station. Yet the share price keeps heading in the opposite direction.
The latest development came on Tuesday, when OHB announced the start of the "EasyMotion-2" experiment on the ISS, with French ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot as the test subject. The company's EMS-Suit system, designed to study the effects of electrical muscle stimulation under microgravity, had just been qualified for use on the station. It marks another step in OHB's push deeper into crewed spaceflight technology — a niche that carries symbolic weight even if it rarely moves the needle on the stock.
The Numbers Tell One Story, the Chart Another
The fundamental picture, on paper, looks robust. When OHB reported its second-quarter and first-half 2026 results roughly three weeks ago, group revenue climbed 11 percent while adjusted EBITDA jumped 31 percent. The order backlog hit a record €3.3 billion. Management reaffirmed its full-year 2026 guidance and pointed to further growth in the second half.
Around the same time, the company was unexpectedly promoted to the SDAX, replacing Klöckner & Co. — an index inclusion that typically brings passive buying flows. A €1 billion contract tied to the European Iris2 satellite programme also surfaced, adding to the pipeline.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?
None of it has been enough. The stock closed Wednesday at €194.60, down 1.8 percent on the day and roughly 15 percent lower on the week. Since the SDAX announcement, the shares have shed about a quarter of their value. The recent slide comes after a remarkable run — the stock is still up 66 percent since the start of the year — but the momentum has clearly stalled.
Analyst Optimism vs. Market Mood
The sell-side, at least, remains convinced the weakness is overdone. Oddo BHF initiated coverage last Wednesday with an "Outperform" rating and a €290 price target, a level that implies substantial upside from current prices. A few days earlier, Jefferies had issued a "Buy" call with a €280 target. Both assessments were published well above the prevailing share price at the time, signalling that professional investors see the operational story as intact.
The question, then, is why the market isn't listening. Part of the answer appears to lie in sector dynamics rather than company-specific news. Market observers noted in early August that OHB was being viewed as relatively resilient amid weaker headlines surrounding SpaceX — a sector-driven narrative with no direct OHB catalyst behind it. Similarly, a mid-August report about a European satellite network moved the stock without any accompanying statement from the company itself.
A Structural Story in a Volatile Dress
The broader backdrop helps explain both the rally and the correction. Europe is accelerating its build-out of independent satellite and space capabilities, driven by geopolitical concerns and fears of over-reliance on non-European providers for critical orbital infrastructure. OHB sits at the centre of that shift as one of the few European system houses combining satellites, launch systems and space research under one roof.
That structural positioning drove the stock's dramatic ascent over the past twelve months — and it also helps explain why pullbacks have been so sharp. Structural-growth stories rarely trade in straight lines; they move in waves, and the current wave is clearly a corrective one.
The irony is hard to miss: OHB is delivering on the operational front — revenue growth, margin expansion, a record backlog, a new analyst endorsement with significant upside — while the share price ignores all of it. Whether that gap between operational reality and market perception narrows anytime soon is anyone's guess. For investors tracking the European space theme, OHB has become something of a case study in how violently structural narratives can be repriced at the margin, even when the underlying business keeps firing on all cylinders.
