OHB's Eaglet-II Constellation Reaches 24 Satellites as TecDAX Membership and Defense Alliances Reshape the Story

Shares of OHB SE slipped 2.3% to EUR 164.20 on Wednesday, a pause that comes with no company-specific trigger attached. For a stock that has climbed roughly 40% since the start of the year, the pullback reads less like a verdict and more like a breather. The Bremen-based space group has strung together a series of operational milestones and won promotion to Germany's technology index, and the market is now waiting to see how those gains translate into the bottom line.
On the operational front, OHB Italia has completed the Eaglet-II constellation for Italy's IRIDE Earth-observation program. The launch of eight final satellites brings the network to its full complement of 24 units. OHB carries responsibility not just for designing and building the constellation but for running it day to day — a scope of work that cements the company's standing in institutional Earth-observation and demonstration missions across Europe, and one that should help its hand in future tender rounds.
ATHENE-1 Adds Payload Capacity
Additional hardware reached orbit through LuxSpace, OHB's Luxembourg subsidiary. ATHENE-1, a small satellite developed jointly with the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, will serve as a platform for 22 experiments spanning communications and data processing.
Index Promotion and Defense Partnerships
September brought a change in the shareholder base as much as in the business. STOXX added OHB SE to the TecDAX effective September 21, where the space group took the slot vacated by IT services provider CANCOM. The move widens the company's visibility among institutional investors.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?
Defense cooperation has expanded in parallel. OHB Sweden signed a letter of intent with Swedish defense group Saab roughly two weeks ago, covering collaboration on space-based defense capabilities.
Rheinmetall Enters the Fray
Competition at home is heating up, though. News agency dpa reported that defense contractor Rheinmetall has begun series production of SAR satellites, putting it directly against OHB in space-based radar reconnaissance. At Rocket Factory Augsburg, meanwhile, the supervisory board reshuffled the leadership: Alexander Dahm was named CEO, succeeding Prof. Dr. Indulis Kalnins, with the task of steering the RFA ONE launcher toward its maiden flight.
Guidance Affirmed Ahead of November Update
Management used the TecDAX entry as an occasion to reaffirm its targets for the current fiscal year. Consolidated total output is expected at around EUR 1.4 billion, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 10.5% to 11.0%. Hard evidence on whether those marks are within reach arrives on November 12, 2026, when the company presents results for the first nine months.
For investors, the focus now shifts from technical wins to operating profitability and how the company settles into its TecDAX surroundings. Whether the stock ends its consolidation phase depends largely on upcoming contract awards from European institutions and public authorities.
