OHB's 7.4% Jump: Three Wins, One Open Tender, and a Lot of Room Between Them
Published on 10/28/2026 at 12:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deA 7.4% gain deserves a sober second look. Media coverage has pinned OHB's Monday move on the newly agreed partnership with MediaMobil Communication and a cluster of recent space-sector headlines. But the more useful question for investors isn't how many positive announcements landed in a single week — it's how economically mature each one actually is. A minority stake, a completed project, and a feasibility study represent three very different stages of progress, and they shouldn't be weighted alike.
The Moon Study: A Real Contract, Not a Build Order
Take the OASIS lunar infrastructure concept first. On 19 October, ESA tasked subsidiary OHB System AG with feasibility and preliminary design studies, with OHB serving as prime contractor for the overall system architecture. That confirms the company's involvement in the conceptual work — and nothing more. It is explicitly not a construction or operations contract, and anyone reading a future implementation order into it has gone beyond the confirmed project status. The distinction matters: the studies are a concrete commission, more than a non-binding letter of intent, yet their subject remains review and advance planning. No contract value was disclosed.
The EU-backed Eu-BEST project sits at the opposite end of the spectrum. On 22 October, OHB reported its successful completion, with the rocket engine test stand in Mainz receiving final acceptance and Horizon Europe funding of EUR 4.96 million. Here the milestone is a finished deliverable rather than a possible future rollout — a sturdier measure of project execution. Even so, the grant sum shouldn't be mistaken for a newly won order. Both announcements are positive, but for entirely different reasons.
MediaMobil: A Strategic Tie-Up, Not Yet a Revenue Story
Under a capital increase, OHB is taking a 25% stake in MediaMobil Communication, the strategic partnership agreed on Monday that explains part of the attention the stock has drawn. A shareholding creates a corporate-law link first and foremost. It is a strategic step, but not yet evidence of additional sales or profits — the label "strategic" is no substitute for financial results. After a sharp price move in particular, keeping those layers separate is worth the effort.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?
Together, the three developments paint a positive picture of activity and project momentum. They do not, however, add up to a uniform statement about future earnings contribution. That gap is precisely what separates a comprehensible market reaction from a fully substantiated re-rating.
Berenberg's Case Rests on a Tender That Hasn't Been Awarded
Berenberg reiterated its buy rating and EUR 358 price target yesterday, with no change to either the recommendation or the target reported. Analyst Michael Filatov reads a Bundeswehr commander's remarks on Germany's multi-billion-euro military space plan as confirmation of a shift from civilian toward defence projects, and he calls the planned Bundeswehr satellite communications system the single biggest opportunity for OHB. The catch: SATCOMBw 4 has not yet been awarded. Rising defence budgets are a potential growth driver, but they cannot be equated with a concrete revenue contribution — Filatov's argument looks ahead to how future projects may be allocated, not to business already secured.
The call lands on a stock that has already run hard. Shares added 5.6% yesterday to close at EUR 237.50. A reiterated recommendation doesn't gain extra informational weight simply because the price is climbing, and it should not be read as a fresh upgrade.
Half-Year Growth, a Quarterly Loss, and a November Date
The operating picture is mixed. In the first half of 2026, total output rose 11% to EUR 627.9 million, and adjusted operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation increased markedly. That growth did not carry through to the bottom line in full: OHB posted a group loss in the second quarter. Stronger operating performance and a positive analyst view do not erase that weakness. Management confirmed its 2026 guidance of EUR 1.4 billion in total output, with nine-month figures due on 12 November 2026.
Until then, the shares sit between operational growth and large-project opportunities that remain unsecured. Berenberg's buy rating offers a clear positive framing, but whether it translates into additional business will be settled at the award stage — not by the scale of political space ambitions alone. The most convincing yardstick remains each project's actual status: completed at Eu-BEST, preparatory at OASIS, strategic at MediaMobil. Investors who take those differences seriously can credit the progress without booking future successes as already achieved.
