Nvidia's Diplomatic Tightrope: Huang's Beijing Banquet, Huawei's Home-Field Push, and a Software Land Grab

Jensen Huang is about to take a seat at one of the more consequential dinner tables in global tech. Reuters reports the Nvidia chief executive will attend a September 24 state banquet hosted by US President Donald Trump in honor of Chinese President Xi Jinping — a guest list slot that lands squarely in the middle of a widening technology-access rift between Washington and Beijing.
For the chipmaker, the stakes in that trade standoff are hardly abstract. US authorities continue to police exports of advanced processors to the East, while China's own champions are gaining ground. Huawei chairman Eric Xu said Thursday that demand for his company's AI computing systems is outstripping supply, forcing the firm to curb overseas sales in order to serve its home market — a development that ratchets up the pressure on Nvidia inside China.
Investors, for now, appear unbothered by the geopolitical friction. Nvidia shares finished Friday at EUR 193.10, up 1.1%, leaving the stock 4.6% below its 52-week high. The year-to-date gain stands at 20%.
A Software Moat, Not Just Silicon
Huang's company is not waiting on diplomacy to shape its future. A September 10 alliance with Palantir Technologies folded Nvidia's Nemotron models together with Palantir's sovereign-AI software, initially to harden Nvidia's own critical supply chains — a move that recasts the group from pure hardware vendor into an architect of mission-critical operating systems. A day earlier, the two partners had already set out to build a joint operational AI stack for enterprises and public agencies, aimed directly at the lucrative software and platform layer.
That push is anchored in the numbers. Roughly three weeks ago, Nvidia reported second-quarter revenue of USD 96.2 billion for fiscal 2027, alongside a gross margin of 75.0%. Its Vera Rubin platform is now moving into production with Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The strategy creates dependencies that stretch well past the purchase of a processor.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?
Capital discipline runs in parallel. During the second quarter alone, about USD 26.0 billion flowed back to shareholders through buybacks and cash dividends, with USD 99.0 billion still authorized for repurchases. The next quarterly payout of USD 0.25 per share is due October 1. Piper Sandler initiated coverage on September 10 with an Overweight rating and a USD 300 price target.
Australia, and the Ecosystem Feeding the Machine
Growth is also being pursued well beyond traditional markets. On September 10, Nvidia unveiled a partnership with Australian operators Firmus, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk to build up to two gigawatts of computing capacity by 2027. The sites will run on Nvidia's DSX platform and more than double Australia's existing capacity.
The buildout ripples straight through to specialist partners, whose order books are full and whose capital needs for new hardware keep climbing. UK cloud provider Nscale, backed by Nvidia, lifted first-half 2026 revenue by 1,252%, according to documents filed yesterday for a US listing. CoreWeave, also Nvidia-backed, said Thursday it would raise USD 3 billion via a convertible bond to expand its AI infrastructure.
The China Question Hanging Over Guidance
Management has already drawn a line under one source of uncertainty. Three weeks ago it guided third-quarter revenue to USD 108.0 billion — explicitly on the assumption that no data-center revenue from China is booked at all. The forecast showcases operational strength while laying bare the geopolitical ceiling on growth.
Back on the conference circuit, Huang took the stage at Dreamforce on Tuesday to discuss safety standards and the technology's outlook, after industry chatter about potential risks and calls to slow development briefly weighed on tech stocks Monday.
What the September 24 banquet ultimately signals is how much room US chipmakers retain to maneuver between national-security priorities and global sales. Nvidia's next quarterly report, scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, will show how far that balancing act has carried the business.
