Nvidia hikes AI server prices over 15% for Microsoft, Alphabet, Oracle due to memory costs, testing its pricing power amid cloud demand and rival chips.

The market has already digested Nvidia's latest earnings report, but the semiconductor giant now faces a far more consequential trial: convincing the world's largest cloud operators to swallow a price increase of more than 15 percent on its AI servers.

According to Bloomberg, Nvidia has informed key customers — Microsoft, Alphabet, and Oracle among them — that prices for AI servers built on Grace-Blackwell and Vera-Rubin chips will climb by that margin starting in early 2027. The trigger is a sharp escalation in the cost of High-Bandwidth Memory components, a supply-chain shock that now forces the company to test the limits of its pricing power.

The stakes are considerable. These aren't run-of-the-mill buyers; Microsoft, Alphabet, and Oracle rank among the planet's biggest cloud operators and therefore the most significant purchasers of AI infrastructure anywhere. Should they accept the premium without trimming order volumes, Nvidia's market dominance gets validated. Should they balk, delaying purchases or exploring rival silicon, the demand narrative that has underpinned the company's valuation would suddenly look fragile.

A Two-Sided Coin

The bull case rests on sheer market muscle. Raymond James lifted its price target on Tuesday to $352 from $330, reaffirming a "Strong Buy" rating and pointing to the CPU division, which the firm expects to reach 5 percent of total revenue by 2028. Citi, meanwhile, confirmed its $300 target with a "Buy" rating on Monday, anticipating that the Vera-Rubin platform will start contributing meaningfully to revenue from the October quarter.

Operationally, there are encouraging signals beyond the core data-center business. SpaceX has adopted Nvidia's Vera CPUs to scale its agentic AI workloads, with plans to integrate Vera-Rubin-NVL72 systems into orbital infrastructure via the Starmind-AI satellite network — an application that would reduce Nvidia's dependence on any single customer segment. The company has also been deepening its role as financier of the AI ecosystem: a strategic partnership announced in early August with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, and KKR aims to build financing platforms for AI data centers that could mobilize more than $500 billion in third-party capital. Reports also suggest Nvidia is negotiating a stake in a funding round for the AI search startup Perplexity.

Yet the bearish scenario is equally concrete. A price hike of this magnitude lands on customers who are themselves under margin pressure and increasingly exploring in-house chip alternatives. Any visible softening in order momentum could quickly reverse the stock's recent recovery. CoreWeave, a key cloud partner, has reported robust demand for Nvidia GPUs in a recent quarter — analysts view this as a leading indicator of utilization — but whether that demand survives a 15 percent price increase remains an open question.

Regulatory and Personnel Headwinds

Geopolitical complications add another layer. Taiwanese authorities conducted raids last week on several local technology firms as part of an investigation into the alleged smuggling of export-restricted Nvidia AI chips into China. The case remains an ongoing inquiry rather than a settled matter, but it underscores how fragile the export-control environment has become.

There's also a leadership transition to monitor. Ajay K. Puri, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, departed on August 24 following a planned succession announced in June. The company says the handover was orderly and the successor already in place, though any change in sales leadership carries some short-term operational risk.

What the Market Is Saying

Options traders priced in a 5.4 percent move for the days following the earnings release, according to Reuters — representing a market-cap swing of roughly $280 billion, though below the historical twelve-quarter average of 7.4 percent. That suggests expectations have calmed somewhat, without ruling out a negative surprise.

The stock traded at €183.52 on Tuesday, up 2.6 percent and roughly 1.5 percent above its 50-day average of €180.83. It remains about 9 percent below the 52-week high of €202.50 reached in May. The recovery is intact but incomplete.

Citi notes that the HBM memory market appears adequately supplied for 2026 and 2027, which could give Nvidia room to negotiate. The real test, however, is whether the announced server price increases actually stick in the coming weeks. That signal — more than any single daily price move — will tell investors whether Nvidia's pricing power remains the formidable force it has been, or whether the era of effortless margin expansion is drawing to a close. The October quarter, when Vera-Rubin is expected to contribute meaningfully to revenue, should provide the first concrete evidence.
