Nvidia has begun notifying users of its Brev cloud platform that unauthorized activity may have exposed sensitive data, including SSH keys tied to customer virtual machines. The intrusion window ran from October 4 to October 20, and the company says it has since rotated the affected keys. No evidence of misuse has surfaced so far.

That distinction matters. Swapping credentials is a concrete remedy; the absence of detected abuse is not the same as proof that nothing leaked. Both halves of the disclosure carry weight for anyone assessing platform risk.

Security Housekeeping Alongside a Deal Spree

The Brev episode lands in a different lane from Nvidia's recent run of investments and infrastructure tie-ups. Growth announcements and platform vulnerabilities deserve separate scorecards.

The expansion news has been steady. On October 28, Reuters reported that the U.S. Department of Justice had queried Nvidia over its planned $12.93 billion acquisition of Hugging Face, probing whether the deal would hand the chipmaker control of a key distribution channel for AI models. A day earlier, Nvidia agreed to invest $3 billion in Meta's equity offering, with the two companies widening their collaboration on Meta's Muse models and Meta planning to deploy more Nvidia infrastructure in its data centers. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, meanwhile, made the NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and Vera CPUs generally available the same day, and both firms said they would scale OCI superclusters built on Vera Rubin to multiple gigawatts.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?

Melius Cuts Its Target but Keeps the Buy

On the valuation side, Melius Research lowered its Nvidia price target to $315 from $420 — a 25% reduction — while leaving its buy rating intact. The more cautious stance rests on financing risks hanging over the AI build-out and on pressure across valuations, not on doubts about the business itself.

Melius framed the chief hazard as a wave of new securities issuance. CNBC's Carl Quintanilla relayed the call on X: at least five companies each worth more than $1 trillion will need to raise hundreds of billions of dollars, and that supply, in Melius's view, is the central risk. The concern stretches past any single earnings report — what matters for Nvidia is whether the big operators of AI infrastructure can fund their expansion and keep planned investments on track. The broker also trimmed targets on several other chip and infrastructure names, pointing to a broader re-rating of the AI investment cycle rather than company-specific worries.

The Market Has Already Repriced

Nvidia shares have slipped 11% over the past 30 days as that more skeptical mood has taken hold. Falling free cash flow at large technology companies has sharpened the question of how long they can sustain their costly build-outs. For Nvidia the exposure cuts both ways: capital spending by cloud giants underpins chip orders, yet the same spending raises the financing burden on those customers.

Not every house expects a cooling. UBS still sees AI investment as a positive driver of global equity returns into next year, even while forecasting continued high volatility — a vote of confidence in the cycle that sits opposite Melius's more conservative valuation framework.

Nvidia at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

November 17 Is the Next Test

The immediate checkpoint is the earnings release due after the close on November 17. Nvidia's own guidance for the third quarter points to $108 billion in revenue, give or take 2%. Meeting that number may not be enough; with financing questions swirling, the outlook will be scrutinized for signs that lofty growth expectations still hold.

Analysts polled by Yahoo Finance expect roughly $109 billion for the reporting quarter and about $124 billion for the following January period. The bar stays high. Melius's buy rating stands, but its lower target signals a demand for more caution on price — leaving investors to weigh whether Nvidia can confirm its growth trajectory even as its customers wrestle with how to pay for it.
