Fresh clinical evidence for Novo Nordisk's dual-action obesity candidate CagriSema emerged this week at the EASD 2026 diabetes conference, where researchers presented findings showing shifts in how the brain responds to visual food cues, a reduction in fat surrounding abdominal organs, and preliminary signals that bone health held steady during weight loss in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Those results matter because CagriSema pairs two distinct mechanisms of action, positioning it not merely as a weight-loss tool but as a treatment aimed at metabolic comorbidities. Cardiologists and diabetologists regard visceral fat reduction as a meaningful lever for lowering long-term health risks, giving the Danish drugmaker another building block in its obesity portfolio.

The EASD presentation slots in alongside late-stage trial readouts from the development program. On 21 September, Novo Nordisk released Phase 3 data from REIMAGINE 5, in which participants shed 12.4 percent of body weight after sixty weeks, beating the tirzepatide comparator arm at 9.1 percent. The same study demonstrated non-inferior reductions in HbA1c, the long-term blood sugar marker, against the rival therapy. Separately, REDEFINE 9 recorded a 21.0 percent weight loss for CagriSema after more than a year of treatment, versus just two percent for placebo.

A Pipeline Built for 2035

Management is leaning on such data to underpin its long-range growth ambitions. Novo Nordisk is targeting risk-adjusted pipeline revenue exceeding 150 billion Danish kroner by 2035, while aiming for annual sales growth in line with the industry average through 2030.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Novo Nordisk?

Getting there will not be frictionless. The FDA has extended its review of the hemophilia treatment Denecimig because of remediation work required at a manufacturing site. The agency did not flag any deficiencies in the submitted clinical efficacy or safety data, and Novo Nordisk has kept its 2026 revenue guidance intact while targeting a US launch in the first half of 2027.

That timeline now represents a shifted piece of the company's US product lineup. No revised decision date has been disclosed by regulators.

Licensing and Capacity Bets

To shore up the pipeline beyond its existing blockbusters, the company has turned to in-licensing. On 29 September it secured worldwide rights outside mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to an experimental oral candidate from Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. The deal for the GLP-1/GIP agonist HRS-1596 carries a $300 million upfront payment and could reach a total value of up to $2.6 billion through milestone payments.

Alongside that move, Novo Nordisk laid out ambitious plans in September stretching to the end of the decade: more than five blockbuster products on the market by 2030 and treatment for over 60 million patients globally. Manufacturing capacity is also slated to expand enough that ten times as many people with obesity can access oral GLP-1 therapies. The company cautioned that these targets do not constitute a financial forecast.

Market Skepticism Persists

Investors have stayed on the sidelines through much of the year. The stock closed Friday at EUR 33.06, down 0.8 percent on the day and 25 percent since the start of 2026. Sentiment had already cooled in September following the company's capital markets day, with media reports pointing to competition from Eli Lilly, looming patent expirations on semaglutide, and unanswered questions about future pricing power as sources of doubt.

With Denecimig's US entry now pushed toward the first half of 2027, attention turns to how quickly Novo Nordisk can resolve the regulatory findings at its production facilities — provided the clinical data remain untouched.
