Novo Nordisk Maps India Rollout for Oral Semaglutide While Buyback Passes DKK 10.8 Billion

Novo Nordisk is sketching out a mid-2027 launch window for oral semaglutide in India, even as the company keeps steadily mopping up its own shares and waits on European regulators to sign off on a label change for Kyinsu.

Vikrant Shrotriya, who heads the Danish drugmaker's India business, floated the timing on October 15, subject to regulatory clearance. Media reports citing Shrotriya also pointed to expected annual growth of 15–20% for India's GLP-1 market, with applications for a higher-dose semaglutide and for oral semaglutide in obesity still under review.

Those figures describe a market forecast, not a revenue projection for Novo Nordisk, and the 2027 date is no confirmed commercial debut. Everything hinges first on whether the regulatory review yields an approval — only then could the announced product ambition turn into an additional offering on Indian shelves. A fast-growing overall market guarantees neither a green light nor a given level of commercial success for the company.

Committee Backing for Kyinsu, With a Caveat

On the regulatory front closer to home, the EMA's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) came out in favour on Friday of a revised indication for Kyinsu in adults with inadequately controlled type-2 diabetes. A final decision from the European Commission is still pending, so the positive vote is a regulatory signal rather than an already-amended approval — the committee recommendation and the Commission's ruling are separate steps.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Novo Nordisk?

CagriSema Data Come With an Asterisk

Clinical news offers a second thread. Late-stage study REDEFINE 1, re-analysed after the fact, showed women with overweight or obesity losing an average 25.0% of body weight on CagriSema after 68 weeks, against 3.0% on placebo. The analysis covered 2,309 women, and the findings were presented at the annual meeting of the Menopause Society.

A further breakdown by menopausal status put average weight loss at 26.7% for premenopausal women, 24.8% during the transition and 23.1% after menopause. Because these cover distinct participant groups, they should not be read as one uniform treatment outcome.

Novo Nordisk itself labelled the exploratory findings hypothesis-generating and flagged the need for further study. CagriSema remains an investigational drug, and the figures stem from retrospective analyses of an existing trial rather than a new prospective study — a distinction that matters when weighing their evidential strength. Nor do they say anything about the regulatory review of oral semaglutide in India.

Buyback Stays Within Its Envelope

Alongside the medical and regulatory news, Novo Nordisk reported the status of its share repurchase programme on Monday. Since February 4, 2026, the company had bought back 39,074,179 B shares for a disclosed DKK 10,875,024,304. The current programme permits purchases of up to DKK 11,200,000,010.45 and runs until February 1, 2027.

That disclosure documents completed transactions, in contrast to the open medical and regulatory questions. For investors, three distinct strands sit side by side: capital measures already executed, an indication change not yet finally decided, and clinical findings that the company says require more research. With the medical headlines in particular, the caveat attached to each is what counts.
